Hummel Genealogy Updated 10-06 The name Hummel means Bumblebee in German This is the story of the Hummel's that came to America from, Hoheneck, Wurttenburg, Germany in the middle 1800's. Some are known to have lived and died in Cincinnati, Ohio. I knew very little of the story of the family My great grandfather, Christian Hummel, came over in 1854 and 3 years later settled in Cincinnati, Ohio. He worked in the distillary business for 32 years in the area His wife, Louisa Goetz, came from Hessen-Darmstadt to Cincinnati in 1857. I found a Hummel relative in Germany (through the Internet!) that gave me some history of the family. There were a total of 11 children, 8 of them came to America over a series of years. Even their mother came over after their father passed away. I have found some information on 4 of the 8 in my search. Perhaps if you are a Hummel descendant, one of these are your family line!
