Updates:
08/12/00 Well, I'm still trying to get this site looking they way I want it.  Currently, my bug is not in running condition.  Though power, temp, and oil pressure are excellent, a sinister vibration has started which may and is probably due to a loosening flywheel.  The signs are vibration and oil leaking from the tranny-motor gap.  I'm really pissed because it may be more than just tightening it up.  It will for sure involve replacing the flywheel gasket, and could, worse case scenerio, involve a new case.  Apparently, the flywheel vibrates and if left long enough, will wreck the seal, and ultimately, the case itself.  So I'll be ripping out the motor again fairly soon so I at least have one car that runs while I do my 2 litre swap on my Jetta.
09/13/00 Well, the Bug has been sitting beside my house motorless for almost a month now.  I did some research and it seems the problem I'm having with vibration is probably something inside the motor which means I have to have the motor torn down.  I'm going to take off the heads and cylinders myself to save on shop time, and my hope is that it is something minor.  Meanwhile, work continues on the Jetta.
09/20/00 Work continues on the Jetta so I won't be updating this page until the Jetta is done.
11/09/01 I've been looking into getting a Mazda rotary motor, just to hold me over for awhile and get the cooling system squared away.  I have a line on a motor, adapter plate, carb, intake, and clutch.  We'll see....
01/02/03  After checking out the whole Mazda option, which I still think is great, I realized that I wanted a lot more from my car.  The professionally rebuilt rotaries cost a fortune, so I decided to get really crazy and go with the addition of a 1.8t motor and H20 tranny built out eventually to 280+ HP.  Also, I've decided to build a bolt on double-wishbone front end as well.  That is taking my time right now.  I've bought a non-powered Golf II steering rack, 86+ Porsche 928 front spindles, hubs, and lower ball joints, and Porsche 993 Cup II 17" X 8" wheels.  I think I will use BMW E36 lower control arms and custom built upper control arms.  My Jetta is taking up space in the garage, so as soon as it is back together again I'll bring the bug inside and get to work.
01/24/04 Work continues slowly on this project.  I have purchased an '85 GTI as the reference point for putting the 1.8t motor in the back on an A2 chassis.  I will be cutting the hole out of the rear package tray this weekend I suspect.  I ditched the 928 spindles for KG spindles drilled for Porsche pattern as the steering arms mount high on these, allowing the steering rack to clear the top of the shifter rod tunnel.  Purchased some LEDs to make LED tailights and 3rd brake lights.  I'm going to be making Angel Eyes for the headlights, using LEDs as the light source.  Currently it is taking up half my garage with the front end up on jack stands and the 993 wheels mocked up in place!
