I.  Scheduled Meetings:
   We have three (3) scheduled meetings for the Fall Semester.  Please help us spread the word and increase our membership.  Proposed agendas, dates, and locations are posted through the previous page under scheduled meetings.  If you have any additional agenda information, please contact any one of the board members.
II.  Byron Combs Visit:
   If you are part of the VA/VR program, please make plans to visit Bryon Combs between October 10-13.
III.  Copy Machine Cards:
   In the past, in order to receive a copy card the student had to purchase all copies with personal funds, mail the receipt to Bryon Combs and wait for reimbursement.  Through collaborative efforts by the Voices of Vets, Byron Combs, UNCP Bookstore, and the Financial Aid Department, copy cards can now be purchased directly through the bookstore using your VA/VR supply account.  Each copy card is worth $20.  Only one per student per semester.  These copy cards can be used in the following locations:
1.  Education Curriculum Lab
2.  Library 1st Floor, Circulation Desk
3.  Library 1st Floor, Reference Area
4.  Library 1st Floor, Serials
5.  Library 2nd Floor, Documents
6.  Library 2nd Floor, Study Room
7.  Physical Science Dept 3rd Floor, Science Building

IV.  Social Work Certification and Licensure:
   Looking for employment?  Want the competitive edge? Consider State Certification.
The North Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NC-NCSW) in their pamphlet title "Everything You Need to Know About State Certification" lists the following reasons why BSW graduates should become certified:
1.  Certification shows commitment to the profession and high standards of conduct.
2.  All the bachelor level mental health practitioners, BSW graduates are the only ones allows to obtain state certification.
3.  Professional credentials may give you the competitive edge in the job market
4.  Our clients deserve it

Certification is not a difficult process.  The North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board requires three professional references, sealed school transcripts and a completed application.  Exams are given 5 days a week at: Raleigh, Greenville, Asheville, Gastonia and Charlotte.  Application processing fee is $100 and the examination fee is $150.  Certification must be renewed every 2 years with a fee of $55.

Byron Combs has agreed to assist all VA/VR Social Work students by request.  You must state that it would "greatly improve my exployability."  He will only pay one (1) time.
V.  Voices of Vets Newsletter:
   The
Voices of Vets Newsletter is a new service.  The the growing population of Voices of Vets, our newsletter needs to grow with it.  We would like to have different sections of the paper to pertain to the differnt types of members--not be single minded focus.  If you or someone you know would be interested in assisting us, please contact any one of the board members.
