New Coach

New Challenges

This fall the Benedictine University Lady Eagles' Basketball team will beplaying under a new head coach. Paul Nelson will be taking command of the Lady Eagles after the resignation of Coach Chris Hitchcock this past summer. Nelson, who is a familiar face around campus, played for and graduated from Benedictine University in 1993 and has been the Intramural Director and assistant coach for the Men's Basketball team for the last nine years.

"This is something I have always wanted to do," Says Nelson on being a head coach. "There will be a lot of new challenges, but it will be exciting."
The Lady Eagles finished last season second in the NIIC with a conference record of 9-3 and an overall record of 15- 13. "My biggest challenge I think, will be the transition from coaching men's basketball to women's," Nelson said. "They have a different temperament than men, but its still basketball."

While the assistant to Coach Keith Bunkenburg's Men's Basketball team, Nelson helped coach the men's team to eight consecutive winning seasons, four Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference (NIIC) titles, one NIIC conference tournament title, and four NCAA post season tournament bids.
