Home Health Nurse
This site is designed to serve as a resource and rest stop for home health nurses, and those interested in the field of home health nursing.

"The purpose of home health care is to provide the support, treatment, and information that caregivers and patients need to successfully manage their healthcare needs at home. The home health nurse's role is that of facilitator of home independence through patient education, patient advocacy, and case management." (Robyn Rice)
Announcement 11/18/05
I regret that I have not been active in homecare for the last year. I am now working as a quality management consultant in an insurance company.
Therefore, I felt I needed to remove my e-mail links, since I am
no longer a good resource to answer questions.
I do encourage you to visit the homecare nursing forum at www.allnurses.com, where will will find help and support. Best wishes to all who visit. I hope you find the information useful, though it may be dated by the time you read it.
If you are burned out from working in hospitals, why not think about home health nursing? Perhaps you graduated from a diploma or associate program, and never had home health experience as a student nurse, or perhaps you are nervous about what it would be like going to people's homes. Don't let your fears keep you away from the best kept secret in nursing!

To discover more about home health nursing,
read about it here, then, if you are interested, call your local home health agency and ask to go on a "ride-along" to learn more. You will be assigned to a nurse to make a visit or two, to get a feel of what it is like to be a home health nurse. Check out this article on home health nursing!

Connect with other  Home Health Nurses in the Home Health Nursing Forum at allnurses.com .
Hope to see you there.
A Nurses Wish

To be a nurse requires dedication, with years of study and preparation.
I pray for guidance and humbly ask, that I will do well with this chosen task.

When illness strikes or pain demands, and a life is placed within my hands,
Give me compassion, knowledge, and skill to do the things that comfort and heal.

Suffering makes patients fear grow worse, and they seek reassurance from their nurse.
Help me to see things from their point of view, and always know what is best to do.

May I have a part, in some small way, in restoring good health to someone today.
Let my work be all I want it to be - I ask great healer to work through me.

May this guardian angel watch over all nurses today as they rise to their calling. May she especially watch over the home health nurses as they may need to enter dangerous areas, and travel through all kinds of weather to answer their call.
Recipe for Homemade Normal Saline

Add 1/4 teaspoon of noniodized table salt to one cup tap water in a clean glass jar with a screw-on lid. Loosely place the lid on the jar. Place the jar in a saucepan of water, with water level 3/4 the height of the jar. Cover the top of the saucepan. Place pan on stove and boil for about 25 minutes. Remove from heat, and allow jar to cool. Remove the jar and tighten the lid. Store solution in refridgerator. Make fresh solution every week. Discard any solution that becomes discolored and cloudy.
