Established in 1916, the College of Veterinary Medicine is one of the world's leading institutions in animal health care and research. One of only 27 veterinary colleges in the United States and the only one in Texas, the College of Veterinary Medicine is actively involved in issues affecting animal care and well-being, public health, food safety and numerous other areas. In recent years, it has become a world leader in cloning procedures and has become a pioneer in several cloning techniques. With more than 175 faculty and an extensive physical plant, the CVM is one of the largest veterinary colleges in the world.

The 1-month-old Angus bull is believed to be the world's first cloned animal that is resistant to such diseases as brucellosis, tuberculosis and salmonellosis.
