Niagara Falls  Pictures

Niagara Falls is the world's greatest waterfall by volume. It is split in two by Goat Island. The American Falls are 64 m high and 305 m wide, with a flow of 14 million litres of water per minute. The Canadian, or Horseshoe Falls are 54 m high and 675 m wide, with a flow of 155 million litres. The falls were formed some 10.000 years ago as retreating glaciers exposed the Niagara Escarpment, diverting the waters of Erie Lake into Ontario Lake. The falls have eroded the soft shale and limestone of the escarpment some 1,2 m per year and now stand 11 km from their place of origin present-day. This region was first the home of various Iroquoian and Algonquian peoples. The French arrived in the 17 th century, and tangible evidence remains at Niagara Fort, which surrendered to British and colonial forces in 1759.

Tourism Million of tourists visit the area every year, viewing the falls from several towers, a tunnel beneath Horseshoe Falls, an aero car over the Whirlpool and the Maid of the Mist, a boat that carries sightseers to foot of the falls. The panorama is good by day and by night, when colourful spotlights flicker across the misty foam. The ice bridge is one of Niagara's most spectacular winter wonders.
The town of Niagara Falls is split into into two main sections: the older area, where the locals go about their business, and the other, around the falls , witch has been developed for visitors. About  3 km south along the river are the falls and all the trap-ping of the tourist trade: restaurants, hotels, shops, attractions, and near the city you can visit Marineland Park, with its beautiful Killer Whales and Dolphins Shows.
