In China, when we were born, we own our signs. If you
were born in the year of the Rooster, then your sign is Rooster; if in
the year of the Monkey, they your sign is Monkey. We use twelve animals
to represent years and these animals are called Zodiac or "Twelve
Signs". These twelve animals are rat, buffero, tiger, rabbit, dragon,
snake, horse, goat, money, rooster, dog, and swine. They are arranged in
a certain order, which is based on a twelve year cycle. Chinese Zodiac
is an very interesting and meaningful culture phenomenon in China.
Many people believe that the sign of a person is closely
related to his/her destiny. People would like to give birth of their
children in the year of theDragon because the Dragon in China is the
symbol of power and fortune. Some people even believe that a person
whose sign is Dragon could not marry with a person who is Tiger because
these two animals can not tolerate with each other and so do the two
persons. Although this kind of superstition is ridiculous and
unreasonable, it shows that Chinese Zodiac accounts for an important
part in many people's heart.
