Welcome to San Carlos Apache Reservation!

The San Carlos Apache Tribe is located on the San Carlos Apache Reservation in southeastern Arizona. The reservation is approximately 1.8 million acres in size and is located in parts of Gila, Graham and Pinal counties. There are more than 12,000 enrolled Tribal members. The reservation is located within the aboriginal territory of the San Carlos Apache and was established by Executive Order on January 31, 1870. Famous Apache leaders who were located at San Carlos include Geronimo, Cochise, Loco, Mangus Colorado, Eskiminzim, Nan, Nachee, Chatto, Bonito and others.

The San Carlos Apache Reservation is a scenic adventure with ecological zones ranging from Sonoran desert to alpine meadows and ponderosa pine forests. The area is blessed with a wide variety of geological, historical and recreational attractions. One of these is the Salt River Canyon, also known as the mini Grand Canyon. The Reservation has more than 100 small ponds as well as lakes and streams and fishing is excellent in many locations. The temperate climate on the reservation makes hunting for big and small game very popular.
