Volume 2

Volume 2 continues on the rest of Episode 2 till Episode 4. So far, this is the funniest volume of them all. From the time Shinji moves in to Misato's apartment to his battle with Shamshel, there were loads of laughs in almost every scene! PenPen's really cute in this one. But I think one of my fave scenes would have to be those with Toji and Kensuke (their 1st appearance in the manga) and the rest of Shinji's section 2-A classmates. Those 2 are so hilarious! Toji sports a really good Brooklyn accent (FYI, Toji has a Kansai accent in the series) to compensate for his "tough-guy" image. And Kensuke? Besides being the "fraidy cat" that he is, nothing's really changed. And like my 1st comment on Volume 1, Shinji's as sarcastic as ever! I mean, he really tried to level up to Toji the whole time the guys was trying to "harass" him. It was truly a breather after what he did to him in the animé series.

But wait! Just because I said that this volume is funny, doesn't mean that we won't see all the drama and horror that EVA is famous for. Unlike in the animé wherein Misato instructed Shinji to board Toji and Kensuke in the entry plug, the manga made a complete 360! Shinji's the one who decides to let them in, much to the dismay of Misato. Since Shinji doesn't like to be "pushed around", expect a lot of tension between the two. But in the end, all things were back to normal. I also have to mention that one of the sweet notes in the book i would say would be the reason why Misato "adopted" Shinji. It was truly the most touching scene in the whole volume.

I think one of the reason why i love this book is because this was actually the first EVA manga that i bought. This baby really pushed me into collecting all the EVA novels and mangas. If you're tired of all the angst you read, try reading this again and you'll definitely end up laughing all over again!
