Bobbin Lace Page
If I can do it, and you can recognize it, how can it be a lost art?
This is my backyard where Mom and I do our bobbin lace during the summer.  My Brother Joe - of whom you'll be hearing more about - created these two interlocking ponds for Mom when we discovered she has a love for Koi, goldfish, and water plants. It's beautiful with 4 separate waterfalls and plenty of  fish, water lilies, and bathing wild birds.  Between the ponds, which you can't see in this picture is also a bog pond.  Designed for plants.  Later, we plan to add another pond about 2 feet deep for young fish and more water lilies.
These are some of our lace equipment.  The table was made by Joe when Mom complained that it was too much to carry out a card table to put her lace on.  It has an adjustable height and angle for the pillow.  It also has a collapsible arm that you can keep pins and such on. We also use it for clamping a light on to. At the side there, you can see what Joe calls a "clamshell".  Perfect for sitting on your lap or taking with you when you go.  Its angle is adjustable too, and Joe made large and small ones.  You can also just about see his "bobbin tree" which we use for hanging our bobbins on after winding.
Here is a half-way decent look of the roller pillow (that's my dog, Sage, trying to act like she did it all herself) with a length of Torchon lace Mom was making.  Mom later finished it and added it to the collar of a sweatshirt. She is such a show off! I am still resigned to bookmarks, being relatively new to this bobbin lace thing.  Wish I could show you more of the lace, but what with the sun and the shade, and the low-rent camera I was using perhaps I can do better next time.
I truly love lacing in the garden and with all the wonderful things Joe has made for us, it is even more delightful.
The tree that shades us is a California native sycamore that sprouted in our yard voluntarily and my mother transplanted it to this spot nine years ago. It has made this spot into a wonderful place to be in the summertime.
I can't think of a place I would rather be.
