Entering the Great Hall after recruiting Shu:

Viktor:
"You're back, Riou, Apple. How was it? Were you able to talk to that strategist?"

Apple:
"Shu promised to help us. He should be here soon."

Viktor:
"I guess the rest is up to this strategist of yours. But can we really trust him? He was banished after all..."

Shu (off-screen):
"If you don't trust me, perhaps you should leave."

[Everyone turns to look at Shu. Shu approaches Viktor. Viktor takes a step back.]

Apple:
"Shu!!!! That was fast."

[Shu turns to her.]

Shu:
"There's much to do, so I pushed my horses hard. I went through 3 steeds on the way here.

[Shu turns back to Viktor.]

Shu:
Hey! You! Big guy! Are you Viktor?"

Viktor:
"Yeah.....that's right."

[Shu steps up really close to Viktor.]

Shu:
"Listen up. Follow my orders and do as I say and we can defeat the Highland Army. Don't believe in me and you'll be the loser. If you want to win, don't question me again. If you can't do that, I'll consider you an obstacle that needs to be removed."

[Viktor turns away.]

Viktor:
"................ ....Apple, I'm starting to see why he was banished....."

[Shu steps past Viktor and looks at Flik.]

Shu:
"Hey blue-boy. You're Flik, right? How many soldiers do we have?"

Flik:
"Careful what you call me.... If we add up the former Muse and South Window soldiers, plus the women, children and elderly volunteers, we've got about 2,000. That and this rickety old castle. The Highlander Army, on the other hand, has increased it's size to 20,000 with the addition of South Window's troops."

Shu:
"I've got a plan. If I recall, this castle played a key role in a counterstrike when the Scarlet Moon Empire invaded. 2,000 soldiers may be enough."

[Shu steps back and addresses the rest of the group.]

Shu:
"They may be 20,000 strong, but they'll have to leave soldiers to man their garrisons as they go. In reality, they have only 10,000 soldiers to move as they please. Furthermore, one-third of them are former South Window soldiers. Under the right conditions, we should be able to get them to join our side. If we could do that, we'd have a force of 5,00 compared to their force of 7,000. We have a good chance to win."

Viktor:
"I'm impressed..... Listening to you, I actually believe we've got a chance. But what exactly is the plan?"

Shu:
"Freed."

Freed Y:
"Yes, sir!"

Shu:
"Infiltrate the Highland Army and spread the rumor that all South Window soldiers will be executed when the war is over."

Freed Y:
"I understand, sir!"

Shu:
"Everyone else will stay here and protect this castle. We've got to buy some time."

Viktor:
"What then? No reinforcements are coming, and I don't think Freed's rumor alone will get the South Windower's to change sides."

Shu:
"The enemy will undoubtedly try to surround this castle. We'll have a small unit work its way around the enemy and attack Solon Jhee's unit from the rear. If we attack their general, the troops will be shaken. We should be able to get the South Windower's to change sides."

Flik:
"Wait a minute. This is a peninsula. How are we going to sneak around an enemy that has us surrounded?"

Shu:
"The Highland Army has only been in land battles. They have no experience on the water. For Solon Jhee, water is just an obstacle. But we're going to use the lake to our advantage. We should be able to borrow some ships from the neighboring village."

Tsai:
"You've taken care of everything. I feel like we're going to win."

Bolgan:
"Yeah!! We're gonna to win! We're gonna win!"

[Bolgan and Pilika jump up and down.]

Viktor:
"Okay. I'll take a chance on you."

Flik:
"So who's going to attack Solon Jhee's unit? Either me or Viktor......"

Shu:
"No, I'm going to leave that role for someone else."

[Shu steps in front of Riou.]

Shu:
"Riou, I'd like you to do it."

Riou:
[ ] "I really don't think so...."
[x] "Okay."

Shu:
"The key to defeating Luca Blight is literally in your hands. We're counting on you. Well, everyone get to work. Freed, I'll help you figure out what to say to the South Window soldiers....."

Freed Y:
"For the memory of Granmeyer! For the people of South Window!!! I'll fight with all my power!!!!!"

Shu:
"Okay, I'm counting on you. Viktor, Flik, Tsai... try to protect the castle. Apple, I want you to handpick 300 soldiers from our army of 2,000. That will be Riou's unit."

Apple:
"Yes, sir!"

[Viktor turns to Flik.]

Viktor:
"This time I'd like to win."

[Flik turns to Viktor.]

Flik:
"Don't mess up."

Tsai:
"Well, there's no time. If we lose this battle, there won't be any more. Everyone get prepared!!!!"

[Scene fades to Riou's room right outside of the Great Hall. Riou is in bed. Nanami is waking him up.]

Nanami:
"Oh...I'm sorry. I'm really sorry I woke you up. But you slept so late..... You must have been very tired. A lot has happened to you..."

[Nanami turns away.]

Nanami:
"Why has this happened? Why do you have to do everything? I'm not sure I trust this Shu. But I guess we have no choice but to fight now. It'll be okay. I'll be there to protect you. Let's go.....It's almost time... time to fight again....."

[Riou and Nanami go to the Great Hall.]

Eilie:
"Hey, Riou. Did ya sleep well? This next battle is riding on you."

[A soldier arrives.]

Soldier:
"The Highland Army has arrived. It appears they're trying to surround the castle."

Shu:
"Okay, it's time. Viktor, Flik, are you ready?"

Viktor:
"Leave it to us."

Flik:
"We'll protect this place."

Shu:
"What about you, Riou?"

Riou:
[x] "Just a minute."
[ ] "Don't worry. I'm ready."

Shu:
"Hurry up. We don't have much time."

[Riou is free to talk to everyone.]

Viktor:
"Well, if I was you, I'd give it a try."

Flik:
"Solon Jhee, huh...... He's a scary opponent....."

Tsai:
"Riou, my boy...... Good luck to you....."

Rina:
"Riou....... Don't do anything foolish...."

Eilie:
"Please be careful, Riou. Don't get yourself hurt."

Shu:
"I'm counting on you, Riou. Okay."

Riou:
[ ] "Just a minute."
[x] "Don't worry. I'm ready."

Shu:
"Okay, begin the operation."

[Bolgan, Rina, Eilie, and Pilika surround Riou.]

Pilika:

Bolgan:
"Riou, good luck."

Rina:
"Good luck. But be careful.... Riou."

[Scene fades to the battle screen.]


Battle screen:

[Three units are at the castle. The Highland Army has eight units.]

Solon Jhee:
"Good. They're just rats in a trap. Crush them! Don't let anyone escape!!!!"

Culgan:
"But our forces are spread too thin. Our flanks are too exposed...."

Solon Jhee:
"Exposed? The only thing our flanks are exposed to are the open fields of South Window!! Don't worry, just get them!!!"

Seed:
"This will be fun. That old coward from South Window gave up without a fight and I was getting bored."

Viktor:
"Listen up. We need to keep the enemy busy until Riou can sneak up behind them. Everyone be strong!!!"

[Battle commences. Viktor, Flik, and Gilbert are each leading one of the units that are protecting the castle. Freed is leading one of the enemy units. Riou's unit and a State Army unit under his control appear in the woods behind the enemy.]

Shu:
"Riou, you have only one goal. Solon Jhee's head unit. You can ignore everyone else."

[Battle. After you first attack Solon's unit:]

Solon Jhee:
"W...What the hell!!!"

Highland Army:
"The...the enemy has attacked from our flank...."

Solon Jhee:
"What!!!..... Where did they come from...."

[Later:]

Highland Army:
"W...we...we've been surrounded....."

Solon Jhee:
"Don't be such a coward. Go back to the front line. I'll take care of this thorn in our behind."

Former States:
"H...Hey! Look at that."

Former States:
"The Highland Army..... they're being beaten???"

Freed Y:
"Everyone look!!!! Riou is attacking Solon Jhee's personal unit!! That's a brave young man!"

Former States:
"Really? Solon Jhee's unit...."

Freed Y:
"Lord Riou! He's a man that could lead us to victory. It's our chance to fight back."

Former States:
"Victory....."

Freed Y:
"That's right. It's time to pay them back for what they did to Lord Granmeyer!!! For the honor of South Window!!!"

Former States:
"He's right! Now is our chance to fight!"

Former States:
"Destroy the Highland Army!!!"

[Three of the enemy units change sides.]

Shu:
"Riou, our work is done for the time being. We should get back."

[More of the battle. Eventually:]

Highland Army:
"Lord Jhee, it's no good. At this rate, we'll soon be surrounded ourselves...."

Solon Jhee:
"I know that, you fool! Retreat!!! Full retreat!!!!"

[They retreat.]

Nanami:
"We did it!!!! We won! We won! We won, Riou!!! They're running away!!!"

Tsai:
"I guess we did it, huh."

Shu:
"Yeah....."


Back at the castle::

[Riou enters North Window. Cheering soldiers line the way. Tsai, Bolgan, Pilika, and Eilie are waiting for Riou.]

General cheering:
"Hey!! Lord Riou is back!!!"

Eilie:
"You did it, Riou!!! You really did it!!"

Pilika:
".........................."

Bolgan:
"I'm so relieved. Pilika was worried too. But Riou is just fine."

Tsai:
"C'mon everyone is waiting in the great hall."

[Scene fades to Riou's party entering the Great Hall. Flik walks up to Riou.]

Flik:
"You're famous, Riou. All of a sudden, you're everyone's hero."

Viktor:
"Ha ha ha ha ha. And well he should be! This is the young man who defeated the Highland Army."

Eilie:
"Everyone's talking about you. They're calling you the "herald of victory".

Shu:
"We've managed to win this battle. But we've already lost Lady Anabelle and Muse has fallen under the control of Highland. The State is in shambles and the survivors are in danger of being destroyed on at a time. Furthermore, sooner or later Luca Blight's main unit, the White Wolf Guard, will attack us here in North Window. In our present condition, we wouldn't be able to defend against such an attack. We need to gather more power here."

Flik:
"You're talking about making this castle into our headquarters so we can fight the Highland Army?"

Shu:

Shu:

[Shu turns to Riou.]

Shu:
"Riou, no, I mean Lord Riou, You are the one who should become leader of the New State Army. We need you to show us the way to victory."

[Nanami steps in between Riou and Shu.]

Nanami:
"Wait a minute here. Why? Why Riou? That's not right. Can you explain why?"

Viktor:
"Is it....the name Genkaku, Shu?"

Leona:
"Genkaku.... Do you mean 'that' Genkaku?"

[Shu steps toward her. Nanami steps back, pushing Riou back as well.]

Shu:
"You are the son of the hero, Genkaku, who was driven from the City-State 30 years ago. In your hand, you possess the same 'Bright Shield Rune' that Genkaku did. You are Lord Riou, who defeated General Solon Jhee of Highland. Many people look to you for hope. But more than all that, I've seen the brilliance in you. The kind of brilliance that this age needs. You must lead the State Army."

Riou:
[x] "Me...a leader?"
[ ] "I don't think that..."

Nanami:
"Wait a minute, Riou. Are you sure? I...I think you should give it some more thought."

Riou:
[x] "But Luca Blight....."
[ ] "You say 'my power', but...."

Nanami:
"That.....That's true, but..... But why you? Is there some reason Riou must do it? It's going to be very dangerous."

Riou:

Viktor:

[Scene fades to night. Riou and Nanami are in his room.]

Nanami:
"Hey......what are you gonna do? You can't decide such a big thing so easily, can you? Hey, Riou, do you really want that kind of power?.......Oh, forget about it. I quit. I'm just upsetting us both anyway..... What do you want to do? Should we go to the tavern? I'd like to hear about Genkaku. Or maybe you'd like to call it a night. You can make your decision in the morning."

The next morning:

[Nanami wakes Riou.]

Tsai:

Tuta:

Eilie:

Freed Y:
"Lord Riou.........."

Barbara:
"I believe in you. You can do it."

Pilika:

Leona:
"Riou......."

Apple:
"Lord Riou......."

Shu:
"Have you....made up your mind?

Riou:
[x] "If you think I can do it....."
[ ] "There's no way I can do it."

Viktor:
"Riou, thank you. I'll lend you all my strength so that we can defeat that bastard, Luca Blight."

Flik:
"Please Riou. We need your power."

Tsai:
"Lord Riou, it's not much, but I'll give you all my strength too."

Freed Y:
"I...I'll fight for you too!!! For South Window, for Lord Granmeyer, for all the people who have suffered at Highland's hand!"

Shu:

[Huan enters.]

Huan:
"I'm sorry I had you so worried."

Flik:
"Dr. Huan, how did you survive Muse?"

Huan:
"Well, I was helped out by a kind soldier and finally made it here."

Shu:
"The soldiers will be happy to hear that we now have such a famous healer. Welcome Doctor Huan."

Huan:
"Thank you. I hope my small knowledge of medicine will be of some help to you and your troops."
"Lord Riou. I'm happy to be here. I'll try to make myself useful to the other people in this castle."

Tuta:
"Oh. That's right. What are we going to call this castle?"

Viktor:
"Oh yeah, you're right.... North Window Castle is no good.... North Window was the name of a village that no longer exists...."

Freed Y:
"What should we do? Shall we have Lord Riou think of a name for the castle?"

Eilie:
"Yeah!!! How about it, Riou? What would make a good name???"

I always name it Genkaku. (Heck, half the time, I name the first castle "Odessa." We're lucky I don't name this one "Anabelle.")

Viktor:
"Oh, Genkaku Castle, huh!! That's a great name!!!!"

Eilie:
"Yes, I like it too."

Rina:
"Hoo hoo. You'd like anything he thought of....."

Eilie:
"Shut up, sis!!!!"

Freed Y:
"So this is Genkaku Castle, huh!!!!"

Bolgan:
"Genkaku Castle! Genkaku Castle!!!"

Apple:
"Genkaku Castle............"

Flik:

[Luc appears.]
