On arrival Mr Parker was formally appointed a Territorial Magistrate for the Port Phillip district. On January 3rd. 1839, the Parker family found themselves in Melbourne. Their first home in the Colony was to be a small collection of tents, pitched on the approximate site of the old Melbourne goal.
Edward Stone Parker officially took office for the Mt Macedon district. In September 1839, after a survey led by Robinson, Edward Parker, his wife, nursemaid Miss Hanna Edwards, seven children, (all under 11), an overseer, Robert Bazely, his wife, a medical assistant, four convicts on "ticket of leave" and three native policemen set forth from Melbourne for Neereman, and the ensuing dry summer persuaded them to change location plans.
