Hatsell Garrard immigrated from Suffolk to Port Phillip in 1841. From webpage by Geoff Aslett

From on Thursday, 19 February, 2009

Hello Elizabeth,
Thank you for your enquiry on www.living-family-history.com regarding a possible match between Hatsell Garrard and Hassell Garran.
Hatsell Garrard farmed at Laxfield, Suffolk. Bankruptcy forced the sale of the farm in 1833, and he spent some months in a debtor's prison before his creditors were satisfied. Hatsell emigrated to Port Phillip on the Caroline, in 1841. Mary remained in England with the children. However, Hatsell was followed a few years later by his eldest son Hatsell Mellersh Garrard, a surveyor, and in 1855 by his second son, Arnold Finchett Garrard, who was accompanied by his young wife, Georgiana nee Turle.
Hatsell returned to England in, poor health, in 1865 and spent time with several members of the Garrard family before his death, as the result of a stroke, at Framlingham, in 1868. At the time he was living at "Countess Well's Farm", the home of his niece, Betsy, nee Gobbitt, who had married her cousin John Garrard. (CNRG)
Inscription on stone at Framlingham Cemetery:
In Memory of / Hatsell Garrard / Formerly of Laxfield / Who died Nov 22nd 1868 / aged 72 years.
There are photos of Hatsell and Hatsell Mellersh Garrard on my website,http://www.asletts.com, with other members of the Garrard family.
Best wishes, Geoff Aslett
