First Founding Day Celebrations - VIAT celebrated its first founding day on 17th April 2007. Prof L V Venkataraman, Director :Elvess Biotech Consultancy Pvt. Ltd., Mysore delivered a special lecture on " Algal Biotechnology - VISION FOR 2010" at 10 30 AM on 17th April 2007, in Obul Reddy Auditorium. Dr V Sivasubramanian, Director VIAT presented the Annual Report

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PHYCOLOGY IN 2009: VIAT will be holding an international symposium on " Algal Biomass- Resource Potentials and utilization" during July 2009 in collaboration with Krishnnamurthy Institute of Algology, Seaweed Research and Utilization Association (SRUA) and other organizations. Dr V Sivasubramanian, director VIAT, is the organizing secretary for this international event. Click here for more details and response form

World's FIRST Phycoremediation plant

Worlds' First Phycoremediation plant at SNAP Alginates and natural products Ranipet: Dr V Sivasubramanian, the Phycoremediologist and Director VIAT, has set up the First Phycoremediation plant at SNAP Industry. Algal remediation technology helps in pH correction of the acidic effluent and complete reduction of sludge formation. SNAP is now a zero disposal company. The phycoremediation plant has been in operation from September 2006. The effluent generated by the industry is highly acidic and of very high TDS ( 25000 mg/L). The entire effluent is evaporated using slope tank. The algal biomass produced is used in Biofertilizer preparation and sold by the Company. The amount of CO2 removed during phycoremediation process is being calculated to claim carbon credits.......(.more on this success story )
