Adept Magic
Alright, so I'm sure some of you are wondering, "How the crap does this magic work?"  Well, I'm going to tell you! :U

So basically, there are the basic six elements:
Dark, Earth, Fire, Light, Wind, and Water.  Followed by the two special cases:  Omni and Void.  On this page I'm going to try to explain this stuff a little.  I'll seperate everything into little sections down here, in hopes that it will shine some light on how the elemental magic works, followed by the special cases.
To start off, each element has two basic types.  Now, they may have other types as well, but we're not going to get too deep into it.
Dark
Dark is the opposite of light, and is therefor feared by most because of this.  Those who use dark magic know that the magic itself has two ways of casting.  There is the standard way, which is the control and manifestation of dark energy, and then there is the sacrificial summoning.  In the later case, the adept sacrifices flesh (their own or others) to draw massive amounts of energy.  This is more dangerous that standard casting, but also has a higher potential of power.  Sacrificial summoning is useful for weaker adepts who cannot use such powers normally.  Now that this is explained, on to the two basic types.

Chilling:  This form of dark energy is the coldness that comes from the absence of light.  Though there is a slight chance of freezing things with this type, it is more likely to slow the target down due to the effect.

Consuming:  This form of dark energy is the standard.  It eats away at things it touches at a rapid rate, like enzymes destroying bacteria.  The consumption rate lasts depending on the potency of the spell.  The stronger the magic, the longer it consumes.
Earth
Earth is the nature around everything.  Being able to manipulate the earth and trees around you is its forte.

Ground:  This form of earth energy is the manipulation or creation of the ground itself.  Causing spikes of stone to shoot out of the ground and other sorts of things are good examples.

Foliage:  This form of earth energy is the control over plants and the like.  Calling forth vines to entrap the target or cutting foes with razor sharp leaves are some examples.
Fire is the burning energy that can either warm a man, or burn him away.  Probably one of the more devestating elements, fire energy is a touchy one.  If not used carefully, it can cause unnecessary destruction.

Flame:  The simple flame effect of fire is standard.  Fireballs and walls of fire are all under this category.

Explosive:  The more devestating form of fire energy.  Where flames can leech about targets, explosions merely eliminate them.  Some of the more powerful fire attacks are under this category, such as firecracker and purgatory.
Light
Light is the opposite of darkness, and usually a sign of hope.  Light energy is often times confused with divine magic, which is a misconception, for divine magic is done by deities.  Known as the "Holy" element because of this misconception, it plays a good fake.

Brilliance:  The shining effects of light, which can be offensive or defensive.  A light adept can concentrate light energy to have a burning effect that causes damage, or they can have illusions of light to confuse or dazzle the enemy.  Attacks such as lightshower are offensive, while magic such as flash are defensive.

"Holy":  The form of light energy that gives it the feeling of divine right, the "holy" form concentrates on things such as healing or protection.  It can also be used to purify essences of pure evil, such as the undead or demons.  Spells as simple as heal are of this type, or light wall for protection.
Wind
Wind is the sheer sign of freedom, and yet can also pack a punch.  Wind is one of the two peculiar elements that possess more than 2 basic forms.

Wind:  This form is the basic, consisting of the control of wind.  Wind adepts can send out bursts of wind energy to knock foes back, or they can send super sharp gusts of wind, known as "blades" to cut the enemy.

Electricity:  The control of lightning and the like.  This form is generally the more powerful one, having spells such as lightning bolt or spark.  Take note that plasma is also included in this form.

Movement:  This is the form that make this element unique.  Movement is what gives wind its sense of freedom.  Simple spells such as levitation or flight are in this, and it also has some of the most powerful wind spells, known as teleportation.
Water
Water is the symbol of life, for without it there is none.  It is this characteristic that makes this element the second of the two peculiar elements with more than 2 basic forms.

Water:  The standard form of water magic that holds under such things as water cannon and pillar of water.

Freezing:  The more offensive form of water magic, freezing magic can cause things to be frozen, or can create solid objects of ice.  This is often times used more by water adepts than their standard magic.

Life:  The unique third form of water that brings out the symbol of life.  These spells include things such as water-breathing and healing.  Though Light tends to have more powerful healing spells, water tends to have more unique forms such as cure poison.
This ends the list of the six basic elemental magic types.  As a note to add to all of them, do remember that all of these elements have spells which incorporate combined forms, such as Wind Bomb, which is a mixture of wind and electric energy.

Now onto the two special cases of magic.
Omni
The combined force of all the elements, Omni is the special form of magic which allows the adept to tap into any of the standard 6 elementals.  Though omni adepts can generally only control weaker forms of all these elements, it is not unknown to have powerful omni adepts who can summon some of the most powerful forms of magic of the six elements.  Much like the six elementals, Omni magic also has two basic forms.

Seperate:  This form of omni magic is when the omni adept taps into a single element for a spell.  This is the standard form, and is often used by omni adepts to confuse their foes with the use of the elements at different times.

Combined:  The form that truly makes omni adepts a force to be feared.  Omni adepts have the ability to freely combine any of the elements into a single spell by themselves, such as fire tornado, that is a combination of fire and wind magic.  Also, higher levels of this form include the ability to combine all the elements into a single, powerful blast with mutiple effects.  Though these all-comined spells are fairly limited, consisting mostly of omni blast and omni shield, they are the "cream of the crop" when it comes to magical spells.
Void
The absense of all elements, this is the opposite of Omni, and bane of all other elements.  Where omni has all elements, void has none, utalizing something known as "neutral" energy.  It, too, is composed of two forms.

Positive:  The bursts of sheer energy that seem like concussion blasts.  Positive is the use of the "neutral" energy, and the standard form of attacking for a void adept.  Take note that anything that the second form of energy, known as negative, absorbs can be used in an offensive or defensive manner through positive energy.

Negative:  The form of void that cause many to fear it, negative void energy is the absorbtion of elemental energy.  The energy absorbed by this form can be used only through the use of the positive form.  The amount of energy a void adept can absorb all matters on his power, so the stronger the void adept the more he can absorb, the more he absorbs, the stronger the outward effect of his positive form is.  Once an amount of elemental energy is absorbed, it must all be released at one time by the positive form, and it cannot be combined.  So if the void adept absorbs two different elements, then he can use them seperately each one time, but not at once.  This is the only drawback to the void magic.
Almost all of this magic I speak of is a gift at birth, and generally not something you can learn.  However, the sacrificial summoning of dark energy can be done by everyone, and has been known to leave those who use it with the same powers as an inborn dark adept.  There are cases of adepts who are born with the ability to cast more than one of the six basic elements or void.  This is a rare chance, moreso than the ability to cast void, but less still than omni.  There are also certain magical items, such as the Adept's Stone, which allow adepts to imbue others with their own type of magic, however there are few of these, and it is unknown how to do so by most.  These magical item-gifted adepts keep their new element for life, despite whether the owner of such an item is changed.

This concludes my little lesson on the magic of my story, but it does not cover everything.  I'm sure later on I will think of others things to add, or you may have questions that I can answer otherwise.  I'll keep this all in mind and update this page whenever necessary.
