Your Support for Divya Desams and Azhwar avatara sthalams

The temples which have been glorified by the Azhwars (Known as Divya desams or Azhwar padal perra sthalams) are 108 in number of which 106 are in this material world.Having been extolled by the azhwars and acharyas these have a special place for followers of Sri Sampradayam.Till very recently these Divya desams were in a glorious condition ,with very vibrant festivals and large gathering of devotees. In due course of time due to continuous neglect today the situation is such that some of them do not even have the means to support daily poojai according to the Agama sastras. There have been efforts recently to support these causes and links are provided below for supporting various causes. Please come forward to support these kaimkaryams and join a small effort to maintain continuous abhivriddhi of our sampradayam

1.SRI ADHI JAGANATHAPERUMAL THIRUKKOIL,

TIRUPPULLANI.

APPEAL

Thirupullani, otherwise known as Dharbasayanam, or Pullaranya Shetram in Ramanathapuram District is one of the most sacred Vaishnavate temple to the Hindus lies about 8 k.m away from Ramanathapuram. It is one of the 18 Thirupathies in the Pandiya Kingdom. The presiding deity of the Renowned temple here is Sri. Adhi Jegannathaperumal with His consort Sri. Padmasani Thayar. It is one of the All India Pilgrimage centre because of its association with the great Epic Ramayana and only here Sri. Rama came and worshipped the presiding deity Sri. Adhi Jennatha Perumal and secured a divine bow to fight against Ravana. It is here that Sri. Rama have laid for three days on kusha grass facing the sea and invoked the aid of the sea God for safe passage to Sri Lanka. Sri Vibeshana with his consort surrendered at the feet of Sri. Rama and hence known as Sarnagathi sthala - a place for un-qualified surrender to the Lord.

The temple is glorified by 20 holy verses of Thirumangai Azhwar in his "Periya Thirumozhi". The temple with magnificient Rajagopuram is a feast to the eyes, but the most of the portions of the temple are in bad condition and require renovation. A single individual or any administration cannot shoulder this venture without public assistance. For this laudable purpose few philanthropist and noble minded persons come forward to undertake few of the major Thiruppani works and the works are in very good progress and due to financial deficit few of the minor maramath and maintenance works are left for want of donors. Therefore it has been proposed to undertake such works through Sri. Padmasani Thayar Kaingarya Sabha founded at Thiruppullani under the chairmanship of Sriman. S. Thirumalai Sadagopan B.A.,B.L., a staunch vaishnavate and have proposed to raise donations for undertaking the remaining Thiruppani works in the Temple and also to extend all possible financial assistance for the well up-keep of the connected religious ceremonies according to the custom and usage of this great temple.

Therefore we appeal to one and all to extend full co-operation and to send donations through cheque, DD in the name of the Chairman/Secretary Sri. Padmasani Thayar Kaingarya Sabha Thiruppullani to get the blessings of Sri. Adhi Jegannatha Perumal. The receipt and archana kum-kum prasadams will be sent to the donors individually.

Thanking you,

Secretary,

2.THIRUKOODALOOR AND THIRUKAPISTHALAM
(Chola Nadu Divya Desams)

Of all the 40 divya desams in the chola Nattu pradesam these two have been sorrounded by a community which care less or know nothing about the perumal in these kshetras You can not even spot Koodalur by that name, (Thaam tham perumai ariyar ..This opening line of Thirumangai alwar mangalasashanam on this shrine meant to denote something else, aptly suits the people found here now.) In local parlance it is Aduthurai perumal koil and people are ignorant that a perumal koil exists in that area!

some renovation is going to take place, but the perumal who is known as Jagath rakshkan stands there with no oil kappu(white patches all over the body), and no one to sing his praises, seemingly waiting for someone to take the rakshai of the shrine. ( No apachram meant. It is with extreme sense of pain these words are penned here)

Another divya desam that requires immediate attention of the devotees is Kapisthalam. Small solace, here there are two Vaishnavite families to take care.

(PS: I request the devotees visiting these shrines to take the following.

These are most needed than the puja draviyam you would be conditioned to take.

# Any number of perumal paathram like big plates, vaddil etc in copper or bronze.

# enough stocks of vaasanaadhis like pachcha karpooram, yelakkai etc to be added to the theertham.

# tins of oil which they can use for Ennai kappu (the moolavar in most of thses places are in stone.)

# good quality vasthram in paththaaru (Perumal is tall and in good built)and sarees.)

2.THIRUMANDANGUDY KAIMKARYAM
(THONDARADIPODI AZHWAR AVATARA STHALAM)

A brief intro about the temple:

The temple is at Thiru Mandangudy, about 13 KMs from Kumbakonam, about 8 KMs from Swamimalai. It is also near two other divya desams, Thiru Adanur and Thiru Pullamboothankudy.

The temple is at the far end of the village, almost behind the massive Thiru Arooran Sugar Factory. There is not one brahmin family at the village and the Agraharam is in ruins. There is one family living in a hut near the temple, earlier belonging to brahmin family now gone usunder; the keys are kept with them. The villagers do not have any interest in the temple, but one would find them in time at the time of distribution. Many of the villagers have taken temple lands on lease, but have not paid the same for ages. A few have encroached the property; one lady has blocked the way to the pushkarini and it is with great difficulty, we have been able to make a free passage to the tank. Now the state government has put one retired ex-service man for security pruposes and is paying him a modest salary.

Samprokshnam was earlier perfomed in 1960; in late eighties and early nineties, people like the undersigned have shed tears at the sight of the temple, which was near to debilitation. With great effort, the two hereditary trustees were made to see eye to eye, and jeernortharanam was started in September 1994. Sri Dr Sampath of choolaimedu, Madras was the guiding spirit of the renovation and with the blessings of Sri Krishna Premi Swamy and the finanical support of Dr Sampath in a major way and other donors the Samprokshanam was completed in September 1996. Still some work was left undone due to lack of finances. The details are given in the web site "www.angelfire.com/80s/tpa".

Archakar is coming from Papanasam which is about 8 KMs away and is being paid by the Sabha at Rs 500 per month. By pooling our reserves, we are able to conduct nithya arathanas and two utsavams - Alwar Thiru Avathara Utsavam combined with Hanumath Jayanthi, Thiru Pavithrotsavam for 4 days.

Wiring of the temple premises, completion of pending civil work, construction of archakar quarteres about 250 SFT to makt the archakar stay there etc are being planned. Thiru Arooran Sugars which helped fund the raja gopuram in 1996 for about Rs 70000/- have now refused saying their industry is not doing well. There is Sri Krishna Premi Swamy's poorna blessings for the renovation now being undertaken.

The renovation is being handled by Sri Thondaradipodi Alwar Bhaktha Sabha which is being chaired by Sri SR Sridhar, a young trustee and a banker, who has spent almost Rs 1.5 lakhs of hos own money for the temple, and is very dedicated. For this purpose he has taken a transfer to Kumbakonam and is away from his family which is in Madras.
