History of Great Village:-                                         

                                               The ancestor of ruling house of Sawantwadi, Mangal or Maga Sawant came in this area of South konkan along with an army of the Viayananagar king in the middle of the 16th century . The ancestor manga Sawant directly related to a great Sisodiya family or Udyapur . His head headquarter were formely at the fort of Gandhravgad in changed tahasil and he had the title of chand  gudhadigati. After defeating local chiefs in south kokan he established himself in the village of Hodavada(20Km from Sawantwadi) which is now in Vengurla Tahsial. He died at Math(22 km from Sawantwadi). A Chattri is build up here which is also known as Mangalyacha Math . therefore this village is also knokn as Mangalyacha Math. Math is renowned for ancient Shila Lekh present in "Mangya Cha Math" miniature holy place .

                               

                                               Dr. Raysaheb Ramaji Dhondaji Khanolkar was popular person who build Math High school. Math High school was one of the first Highscool's in Math Panchcroshi.  100 years old Math Primary school is constructed by Ramaji Dhondaji Khanolkar.

                                 

                                              There are so many families from this village  are related to British Military  e.g. Subhedar Vishnu Sakharam Parulekar , Mr. Mathkar . Bowlekar cashew factory is situated in Math. Bowlekar cashew's is famous brand in India. Bowlekar is emergent  brand  in cashew industry of Maharshtra. Math is Zilla Parishad constituency.

15°53'40"North and a longitude of 73°40'9"East. Math is located , 192 km from Ratnagiri and 514 km from Mumbai. It is delimited by Vetore, Aadeli, Tulas in the Vengurla Taluka, and is 74 km from Panjim, the capital of the state of Goa.

Temples & festivals :-

                           Swayambhu (Gram Devata), Mangalyacha Math, Sateri, Ravalnath, Bhootnath, Anbhavneshwar, Gawadeshwar, Datt Mandir, Italadevi, Parab Vansh Mandir.

                           Jatra (holy Hindu temple's annual festival ). It is celebrated in all temples of Math with tradition. In January or February (Magh month--as per Hindu Year) Mahashivratri, a celebration in honor of Lord Shiva held at the principal Siva temple Swayambhu - Math.

                          Shimgotsav or Shigmo is a grand Five-day festival of colors, celebrated Math, corresponding with Holi Festival. Held for one-week up to the full-moon day in March, Shimgo is universally celebrated in Vengurla Taluka, but especially at Math.
                          "Ghodemodni" or parade of the horse riders is a part of *Shigmo and is found in Math. Hypnotic and rhythmic music of drums and shistles accompany the martial dance, which parades down the main street, imitating horses and their riders.
                          Rombat takes place on the third and fourth day of Shigmo in Math. It is a procession of men in colorful dresses , dancing to the music of drums.
