1917 Commander of the XXIII. Korps intermittently until wars’ end
1918 Promoted to General der Infanterie

Oberleutnant Csicserics was made chief of staff for the XIII. Corps in October 1905, replacing Obst
Adolf von Rhemen zu Bärenfeld. Csicserics retained this responsibility until January 1907, when he was replaced by Obst Eduard Zanantoni.  Then, Obst Csicserics was made chief of staff to the XI. Corps in April 1908, replacing Obst Friedrich Ritter Gerstenberger von Reichsegg und Gerstberg.  Csicserics remained there for four years, and then was replaced by Oberleutnant Franz Riml in 1911.

FML Csicserics began the war as the chief of staff for GdI
Liborius Frank and the V. Army during the summer and autumn 1914 offensives against Serbia.  Csicserics assumed control of the 14. Infantry Division in April 1915, after its former commander, FML Hugo Martiny, had departed.  Csicserics kept his division in good hands up to June 1916, when he was repalced by GM Ladislas Horváth.  Then Csicserics was given command of the XIII. Corps in July 1916, once again replacing GdI Adolf Rhemen in a position.  Csicserics kept this active command until June 1917, and was succeeded by FML Alfred Edler von Schenk.

Three Times for the XXIII. Corps

The two commanders basically swapped commands, for Csicserics took over Schenk's command in the XXIII. Corps in June, and held it until December 1917.  He was then superceded by GdI
Emmerich Hadfy von Livno. Hadfy did not last long, and FML Emil Ritter von Gologorski was placed in charge until Csicserics could return, to the XXIII., which he did in March 1918.  This lasted until July, when Csicserics surrendered the command to Hadfy who had come from leading the 1. Generalkommando.  However, Hadfy was immediately transferred to the XXIV. Corps leadership, thus granting Csicserics leadership over the XXIII. Corps yet again, this time until wars' end and demobilisation.

Maximilian Csicserics von Bacsány died in Zagreb, Jugoslavia (today Croatia) on 18 Novemer 1948.

In mid-July, General Adolf Rhemen was dismissed and his XIII. Corps was given to FML Maximilian Csicserics, formerly in charge of the 14. Inf. Div. under General Schmidt v. Georgenegg’s IV. Corps.  The stout resistance of this division to the Russian onslaught in early June convinced Army HQ that Csicserics could rectify the situation in the theatre, but his appointment kept the XIII. Corps together enough for an orderly retreat throughout late July and early August instead of full-scale surrender as in June.
