VCU uPDaTe WeEk 4 – Games Ending September 29, 2008
WHO IS THIS TEAM?
Oops. Last week we said “hope they
don’t have a trap game let down against the lowly Bears.” Well, as it turns out, the Bears are a decent
team. Losing to the Bears at Soldier Field is no disgrace, but the Birds sure
left behind a lot of chances. You can
point to Fraction Jackson’s muffed punt, or his route running that led to a Dmac
interception, but this loss falls squarely on the largest target. AR.
How do I blame thee? Let me
count the ways. 1) You know Akers is
not much good for any FG attempt over 40. Sure, he nailed the 44-yarder in
Dallas in the almost-indoors environment of Texas Stadium, but 50 yards on a
windy night in Chicago? When it is 4th
and one at the 33? 2) Then you try it
again from 47?! 3) Buckhalter broke the
plane on that 4th and 1.
Where is the challenge? 4) On a
critical 3rd down during a drive that led to a TD, the Bears came up
a full yard short. Yet the zebra marked
it as a first down. Where is the challenge?
5) With Westbrook out of the game, who is your best weapon on first and
goal? Yet of four tries, none of them
go to Dmac? 6) You knew Westbrook was
not going to play, but Booker apparently gets no reps in practice? 6) The playcalling after the Howard
interception may have been the worst of your career, Andy.
STOP YER CRYING.
Sure, we are 2-2 in a tough division. But we played a road game without 2 great blockers – Shawn and LJ
– and without the number one offensive weapon, Westbrook. Eagles still look very good, if only AR
learns from the same mistakes he has been making for 10 years.
HEY, HOW ABOUT THEM PHILS?
Nice draw, getting the fading Brewers in the playoffs. What’s not to
like about this team?
