Organic compounds comprise the vast majority of chemicals we come in contact with on a daily basis.  This assignment is intended to take you on a tour of at least one class of organic compounds that play a vital role in our lives.  Within the many families of organic compounds there are "stars" - compounds possessing important applications that have lead to their widespread use or, at the very least, notoriety. 

Just like the motion picture industry recognizes its most famous or influential members by placing a star with their name on it along the Hollywood Walk of Fame,  on the next page, we have our own walk of fame honoring some of the most influential organic compounds of the past 100 years. 

Hint:  In the course of completing this webquest, keep in mind the focus of the assignment is to answer the question, "what role did this compound and/or family play in the past 100 years?"
