Diet

This is me when I was young. I grew to four feet in two years. I eat a salad of collard, turnip, mustard and dandelion greens, escarole, curly endive, snow peas or green beans and winter squash, such as butternut, acorn, sweet dumpling, spaghetti or pumpkin. Mom makes a couple day supply of salad in the food processor, but I eat my salad at least once a day. A salad topped with raspberries can't be beat. Sometimes I like to mix in kale, broccoli, romaine lettuce, carrots and sweet potatoes, but these are occasional foods. Lettuce, other than romaine, should never be fed to an iguana. I also eat hibiscus leaves and petals, rose petals, nasturtium and carnations. Check out my favorite links for more information on diet. I require a UVB light in the winter make my vitamin D. Without vitamin D, I can't utilize my calcium. I don't use calcium sprays or extra vitamins because I eat a good diet and get real sunlight in the summer. No iguana should rely on commercial food as an adequate diet, but this can be used as a snack and during vacations. Please do not feed an iguana dog or cat food, crickets, mealworms or monkey biscuits.
