February 03 X-Stitch Diary

Cat in Hat RRSpent quite a bit of today updating these pages and giving them a bit more content. This computer is really starting to annoy me now, as it has locked up on no less than 6 occasions while I've been working, meaning I've lost a little work everytime, and quite a bit the first time. At the moment I'm saving what I'm doing every 5 minutes or so until it goes again.

The WIP and Completed Project pages of this site are now online. It was quite fun going back through some of my early stitching works, with 2003 I've been sewing now for nearly 4 years, how time has flown. I'm quite amazed really at how much stitching I did manage to get done in 2002 compared to my other stitching years, but having time on my hands has certainly paid off, that and having regular stitching meetings at my Aunt's every week.

I haven't been doing much stitching the last few days as I've come down with a stinkin rotten cold, yes my nose is tap-drip time again! This is what progress I've made so far on Wishbone, my Cat in a Hat.

All Our Yesterdays KitOn Tuesday I finished the All Our Yesterdays kit which came free with Cross Stitcher Magazine last year. It really didn't take long to do, just two mornings (and one evening of backstitching) worth of stitching, and that included the time taken to go to my stitching shop to buy more of 3041 and 3042 as I had run out of both the purples! That was my own fault, I read the instructions "stitch in one strand" then proceeded without thinking to "cast on" using one strand doubled over with a loop to start off with and it wasn't until I'd finished all the yellow stitches that I'd realised what I'd done but by then it was too late. I sort of like that raised and bumpy look anyway. After getting a suitable square picture frame for the cover mount which came with the kit (I cannibalised a cheap Winnie the Pooh picture from Wilkinsons for its frame and cardboard mount).

The last two days I've been working on the daisy border for my Cats in the Hats Round Robin which I'm preparing for. The daisies look like a really bright, fun flower, but I think I'm just starting to realise what I've let myself in for to complete this border, what a lot of stitching! Whew! The daisy border came from Donna Kooler's 555 Cross Stitch Designs for the Young at Heart book. The daisies are and additional design for that can be added into the Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary Sampler, which I really want to stitch itself sometime too. I had to extrapolate the design and twist it through all four dimensions. I did this using X-Stitch Master Elite Software which took a while, but at least I know how to use this software properly now! LOL! I now have a home-made chart of all the border edges I need. The border has now progressed far enough so that I know it's finished width and I have now been able to cut away the excess fabric from the width - yes the same fabric as te Cattitudes RR - I still have a nice large bit that I can sew something else on too. Thank you Sewandso for £17 well spent.

My Elf RR returned to me on Monday too. I haven't photographed the finsihed thing yet as I want to add in some additional designs around and in between the finished elves to make them look more like they are in their own village of Nutwood.

Well, today I decided to create my own stitching web pages after finishing and uploading yet another finished project onto my yahoo photo album. The Yahoo site doesn't really do them justice, and as this web space is just sitting here, I figured I might as well use it.

PhoenixThe above mentioned project was "The Phoenix" which I completed as part of the ANN (A Noble Needle) Fantasy 4 Round Robin. The Phoenix is my contribution to the third stage of this exchange, the timing for which has slipped slightly, as I'm expecting my RR returned to me complete any day now.

The stitching of the phoenix took just under three weeks as I received it on the 21st January, which was perfect timing as I was just finishing up my Contented Cat for the Cattitudes Round Robin that same day.
