Indian-English Poetry, in the historical
perspective, starts with the poems of Henry Louis Vivian Derozio
( the first poet in the lineage of Indian-English poetry ), Toru
Dutt and Sarojini Naidu. The poetry of the Age of Ezekiel, which has
been continuing with variegated tones and tempers, is represented by
major figures like Nissim Ezekiel himself, A. K. Ramanujan, Dom
Moraes, Jayanta Mahapatra, Kamala Das, Keki N. Daruwalla,
Arvind Krishna Mehrotra and others. While there are a
number of significant poets who have enriched Indian-English
Poetry, it is reassuring to note the freshness in the poetic
voices of younger talented poets
like Robin S. Ngangom and his peers. II
Anthology of Indian-English Poetry II
Oriya, one of the major Indian languages,
has a vibrant legacy of poetry. Sochi Rautroy (Satchidananda Rautroy)
is the harbinger of the era of “neo-modernity” in Oriya poetry, its
“principal idiom-maker." In the Varnamala
web-anthology of Contemporary Oriya Poetry in English translation,
edited by Rabindra K Swain, selected poems of most of the
significant poets ( including Sochi Rautroy, Guruprasad Mohanty, Ramakanta Rath, Sitakant Mahapatra, Soubhagya
Kumar Misra, Rajendra Kishore Panda and Haraprasad Das ) and some of
the younger poets have been placed. II

While creating the first organised
web-anthologies of Indian-English Poetry and Oriya Poetry (in
English translation), Varnamala has inspired other organizations for
similar endeavour.
