MONKEY BARS

Straws tangledWhen my son was about four, I let him try the monkey bars in the neighbourhood playground, not realizing that his young arms lacked the muscle power to hold on. He fell and broke his front tooth. Monkey bars can be highly dangerous for little kids playing without close supervision. According to a newspaper report (TNP, 11 June 2000), broken or fractured elbows are among the most common injuries treated in KK hospital's Emergency Room. The cause? Playground injuries at the monkey bars. Parents need to be aware of, and take seriously, child safety issues. If you want to brush up on your child safety awareness, you can go down to Suntec City on 17 June, when KKH will be organizing a public forum on childhood injuries and prevention issues. Call KKH (2934044) for more details.
