Headlines: It is rare that this writer is truly at a loss for words. Mostly I try to take something from the game and twist it into an insiders humorous look at ourselves and our collective team. Funny things, like Jared Crouch trying to convince JArch to leave the ice for the final 6 on 5 attack to tie the game, only to have JArch look blankly at him, like he was a retarded two year old. Or the good natured taunting of Kip letting in a soft goal, but not tonight. As I sat in front of the keyboard into the wee hours this morning I prayed for divine intervention in assisting me with my duties of capturing the true essence of last nights Viper Hockey game and putting a funny spin on it. In the first two period and well into the third period, it was a spirited contest with both teams playing a physical, but clean game and there were many little things that I could turn and twist into something humorous. Now, I can't remember any. The score and shots on goal were almost dead even going into the final two minutes and, from my vantage point on the bench I felt like the Viper's would pull this one out in the last two minutes. It was in these two minutes that the contest would be defined. Not for the play on the ice, but as a testament to how fast a hardnosed, well played contest can spin out of control. Hockey, traditionally, has always had a violent side. But even in the violence there is a code, where the combatants square up, fight and when it's over they skate off to the box and it's done. Many times the two go out for a drink at the bar or a bite to eat.
