Valley Street Park
Valley Street Park is 2.43  acres of forested, non-maintained land located east of Muldoon road, in between E. 6th & Rangeview and in between Valley & Cherry Streets.  Running through the park is Chester Creek, which last summer was the home to Trout and Dolly Varden and, years ago, Salmon. Historically it has also been the home of Mallard ducks and their ducklings.  It is said that some kids playing in the park killed the babies for sport this summer.  There was also a time that Pintail ducks would nest in the same park, however, the Pintails have not been seen for a couple of years now and most likely found a safe place to nest.
An improvised bridge was constructed across the creek, essentially damming it, but has since been removed. A great deal of debris (mattresses, microwaves, freezers, refrigerators, wheelchairs, shopping carts, lawnmower, rebar, plastic, aluminum, backpacks, coolers, etc) has been removed from in and around the creek between Cherry and along Rangeview trailer park up to Muldoon Road by individual neighbors and organized nonprofits.   Theft, vandalism, and other illegal activity have been reported in the park. According to one person who has lived around the park since early 1970's, the city has not done anything to the park except cap off an old well and put in a fire hydrant. There is no access to water in the park.  In summer 2001, the Alaska Extreme 4wheelers adopted the park and got Parks and Rec to put a one-piece aluminum picnic table set in park, which was flipped, thrown in creek and finally stolen.  It has been suggested that the city (Shawn Mcbride, Street Maintenance Dept., 343-8277) clean out the drain pipes that run under Cherry and Valley Streets.
