ANY image is copyrighted... even an image that you create... at the moment it is saved to disk or printed out. Copyright is a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States to the authors of "original works." This protection is in place whether or not the work is published. It gives the owner the exclusive right to do and to allow others to do the following:

• To reproduce the work (including place on web pages)
• To distribute copies of the copyrighted work (including place on web pages)
• To display the copyrighted work publicly (including place on web pages)
• To create derivative works based upon the copyrighted work (meaning using an original, or parts of it, in a new work)

It is illegal for anyone to violate any of the rights provided by the copyright laws making the violator subject to VERY STIFF FINES as well as probable confiscation of all hardware and software used in the theft.

Clipping/capturing/stealing art from other's web sites without prior permission is theft! One should NEVER use art, altered or otherwise which they do not have full rights to or for which they have not requested AND received permission from the copyright holder for use.
