URUGUAY - SOUTH AMERICA
Hubert Mannes, from Oklahoma, arrived to Uruguay in 1948 to work for the U.S. Embassy. There he met a woman that would become his wife, and both returned to U.S.A. Hubert was so captivated by the Uruguayan way of life, the tranquility and security the country provided, that he decided to quit the diplomatic service and establish himself and his family in a traditional uruguayan ranch (Estancia) named "Los Morteros" in Mercedes, Uruguay. His son John finished his studies in U.S., and also chose to return to Uruguay for the same reasons his father did in the past. John has been dedicated to breeding, training and playing polo. Due to his hard work "Los Morteros" has achieved a level of quality and performance that is widely recognized not only in Uruguay but in North America and Europe as well.
"Los Morteros", with its main house built in 1860, has 3 excellent polo fields and 1 practice field. All inside a property of 2500 acres at the borders of the Río Negro (river) that provides a beautiful scenery for trekking, trail rides and lots of activities.
Golf, tennis and the beach can also be enjoyed in wonderful surroundings very near to "Los Morteros".
A typical day at "Los Morteros" could be:
Morning: After breakfast at "El Copihue" transfer to "Los Morteros" to stick and ball in companion with one of the coaches where players are given riding instructions too.
Lunch at "El Copihue".
Afternoon: Back to "Los Morteros" to play 4 chukkers with or against local players (which are chosen according to the level of our guests)
4 kilometres from "Los Morteros" (5 minute transfer).
