A Little Touch of Heaven

precious_moments This page is going to be about cats and kittens. I am going to tell you about their likes, dislikes, their health issues and about how they are growing up around people.

Cats are naturally clean animals, therefore the litter box needs to be kept clean. Most of the time kittens train themselves to use the litter box. You want to make sure you do not move it frequently. Your kitten needs to know where it is and if it is moved then they will get confused and not know where to go to the restroom. You want to keep it clean and smelling fresh, and the litter pan needs scrubbed with disinfectant at least once a week. The litter pan shoud be kept in a quiet place, so the cats or kitten is not disturbed or distracted. It is not recommended to have the litter box by the cat food either.

If you have more than one cat; here is something to think about, it may be best to get a litter box for each cat so they have no problems fighting over the litter box. They won't have any problems sharing.

Bonding- It is very important that you bond with your kitten or new cat. You can bond by holding and petting your kitten or cat, but if he/she wants down, you need to let them down, don't force them to stay.

Just like dogs; kittens and cats need vaccinated also. This will help prevent them from getting deadly diseases. They also need protection from fleas and ticks.

Cats and kittens need toys to play with, they will find things to play with if they don't have their own toys. They like to chew on wires, and shoe strings. They like to chew on just about anything. They love cat-nip also. So it is important that you keep your house animal proof. Keep your pet safe.

Breed~
A group of domestic cats (sub-species felis catus) that the governing body of the CFA has agreed to recognize as such. A breed must have distinguishing features that set it apart from all other breeds.
Breed Standard~
A standard is an abstract aesthetic ideal. The realization of a good standard would result in a work of art or, at the very least, an object possessing artistic unity.

I will give you a little insight on different breeds of cats:

  1. Abyssinian~ One of the oldest known breeds, but there is speculation and controversy about their history. The first was imported to North America from England in the early 1900's.
  2. American Bobtail~ A breed that resembles a bobcat. It is medium to large, athletic, and well mannered. A loving, kind, cat that bonds with it's family, and is very good with children.
  3. Maine Coon~ There are many myths surrounding the Maine Coon. It is the Native American long haired cat. It was recognized in Maine for it's high mouse catching talents. It has great intelligence and is well known for its kindly disposition, and loving nature.
  4. Persian~ This breed of cat was named after their "Country of Origin" as early as 1684 B.C. They have long flowing coats and open pansy-like faces. They are the number one breed in popularity.
  5. Siamese~ First exported from Thailand, or that time called 'Siam', in the late 1800's. This breed is sleek, with fine chested aristocratic heads, deep blue almond eyes, and short silky coats. The first Siamese to enter England was a gift to the ambassador; from 'Siam'.
  6. Siberian~ The Siberian breed has been around for at least 1,000 years. It is the national cat for Russia. It was first imported in 1990, and its popularity in the United States is very rare. Most breeders have waiting lists for their kittens.
  7. Sphynx~In 1966 a domestic cat gave birth to a kitten with no hair; in Toronto, Canada. It was discovered to be a natural mutation. As for this happening; this is how the Sphynx was brought in to existence, as we know it today. This is a very robust breed with very few health or genetic problems. It is not always totally hairless. It sometimes has a fine down on the body. It was accepted for registration and competition in the (CFA) in February of 1998.
