ZERO MOSTEL

The First Web Page Devoted To This Remarkable Legend

If there is one adjective that can sum up Zero Mostel, it is awesome. Awesome in his dominant presence that impresses one even in still photographs, the presence of a larger-than-life star.  Awesome in the artful way he combined ferocious bombast and winsome delicacy in his performances.  Awesome in that he tackled both farcical slapstick and serious drama with equal vigor and conviction.  Awesome in that he could accomplish the impossible, such as metamorphosing into a beast without makeup or trickery.  Awesome in that he won three Tonys for three Broadway shows in a row.  And especially awesome in that he not only recovered from the McCarthy-era blacklist and a crippling accident, but that he soared to greater heights than ever.

It is a shame that Zero's stage triumphs in shows like A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and  Fiddler on the Roof are now fading memories of those lucky enough to witness them.  Fortunately, his best work has been preserved on film, television, and records for posterity, giving those who never saw him on stage the opportunity to appreciate his remarkable talent. Currently under construction, this web page will celebrate Mostel's achievements, as well as his heroism during the blacklist.  I hope that this web page will help perpetuate Mostel's memory.

WHERE DID ALL THOSE COMMENTS IN MY GUESTBOOK GO? My guestbook was all filled up so I had to store most of the comments in an archive. Only by this way can people post new comments. Otherwise, I would have kept all the comments posted. I hope that those whose comments were deleted aren't offended.

ATTENTION I am trying to contact two people who have emailed me about my web site- Wolfgang whose email address was seance@wingnet.net and John Pugliese whose email address was Paradox@mtindex.com. Evidently, they have changed their email addresses. If either of you are reading this message, I would appreciate it if you would email me.
