ENDORFIENDS - PURE PUNK
THE STORY SO FAR

With a line up which reads straight from the "Who's Who" of glam punk, it's not surprising that Endorfiends are currently one of my favourite bands on the scene.

Comprised of bass God Dave Tregunna (ex Lords Of The New Church/Sham 69/Kill City Dragons), former Kill City Dragons guitarist Steve Von Saint, tubthumper Dave Broderick (ex-Last Of The Teenage Idols) and manic frontman Spider who previously found fame with Paradise Alley, Endorfiends made their live debut to a capacity crowd at London's Roadhouse in August 1995, just six months after forming.  Since then, they have gone from strength to strength and can regularly be seen playing headline shows around London as well as securing prestigious support slots with the Holy Barbarians and the UK Subs.

March 1997 saw the band return to LA to play a series of showcase gigs at some of Hollywood's infamous venues including The Whiskey, Dragonfly and Viper Room for such labels as Epitaph, Geffen, Island and Elektra.  As a result, Endorfiends have now signed a management deal with former Faster Pussycat and Poison manager, Vicky Hamilton whilst fifteen of their songs have been remixed by Love/Hate guitarist, Jon E Love and top Producer, Gez X.

Endorfiends come across as a mix of Generation X with The Ramones and write fast but melodic classic anthems - crashing drums, speeding basslines, wailing guitar solos and glorious chanty choruslines all being trademarks of their style.

The irresistible "Wonderland", "Terrified", "I Don't Wanna Play House", "Supersonic Man", "Shangri-La America" and "I Don't Wanna Know" are all instantly memorable.  Also, from the fury of "90s Way" to the raw anger of "I Hate" and the attitude ridden "I'm OK", Spider proves his vocal capabilities time and time again, screaming the message home.  Although at times reminiscent of The Damned's Dave Vanian and with more than a trace of John Lydon evident, he has still adopted a unique style of his own - even if he has borrowed the Johnny Rotten stare!

Live shows were energetic affairs and worth catching if only for the way Spider struts, stares, poses and pogos to perfection.  Classic punk was alive and well and living in London!  Endorfiends were a class act with what should have been a big future ahead of them, something I was sure of from the first time I heard their cassette way back in 1995!  The band described themselves as pure punk back then - I just thought they were bloody good!

Sadly, 1999 saw the demise of Endorfiends.   With various band members being tied with family commitments, Spider decided to sit back, have a rethink and reinvent Endorfiends in the form of THE COOKOO JIVES.  With a totally different image - "more makeup, longer hair but with Gangster looks", The Cookoo Jives have the same sound as Endorfiends but with new and younger partners in crime joining Spider in the spotlight.  With new material in the pipeline and live outings to follow - remember the name The Cookoo Jives and where you heard it first.  Check them out - I guarantee you'll love it ...
