I am concerned in respect as to not having adequate infrastructure after all the development is done and possibly having to pay for this in the form of higher taxes.

The destruction of green spaces is Fairfax County is totally out of control and it seems as if no one cares ! Every day I see our few remaining natural/green spaces being destroyed and replaced by developments that make no attemps whatsoever to preserve ven the smallest piece of land as green space. Meanwhile, every day there's more and more traffic and pollution and the summers have become unbearably hot with half the days being declared "Ozone Alert Days". I think of my baby and how she was a prisone in her own home last summer because the pollution was so horrible and I'm sickend and heart-broken that the situation is only worsening. I'm absolutely STUNNED that officials in Fairfax County are allowing these environmentally disastrous developments to go up daily with no concern whatsoever to the absolutely horrendous impact that this will have on our health and quality of life. This i an OUTRAGE !!!!!!

We need to change zoning to allow walkable communities that have a mix of residences, stores, churches, and offices. The gasoline tax should be raised to help discourage car use and pavement. Bicycles need on-street lanes and bridges over interstates. But I also know that the automobile is still an important part of the transportation mix, and believe the Virginia beltway should be widened.

Be thankful I'm tired! I found your site by doing a search for Save Evans Farm on one of the search engine. I'm glad that sites like this exhist. I've lived my whole life in McLean and in the past five years I've watched my home town be decimated by new construction. This issue with Evans Farm and the recent refusal by the Fairfax Board of Supervisors to allow a public hearing regarding the creation of a special tax district has made it clear to me that the County government expects people like me to simply move away f I don't like how things have developed. This is my home. I'm staying. I don't know about them! ;)

our urban population has declined from high of 650,000 to today's 460,000. we have thousands of vacant housing units while developers build new homes on former wetlands and across lake pontchartrain and then build new highway exchanges to handle traffic. ut my biggest concern with sprawl is the mega store mentality it fostered and the fact that now these store and there moats of asphalt parking lots are invading the cities, We are fighting a 60,000 sw. ft grocery store that wants to tear down 12 historic uildings and reroute traffic. you might know historic st. charles avenue in new orleans where the oldest continually operating streetcar in America has run since the 1830s. That's where the developers want to put their parking lot. i work for an organizat on called the preservation resource center. our principle aim is bringing a middle class back to the city so fighting sprawl is absolutely paramount. we need to form an alliance with new orleans sierra club.

The Virginia Department of Transportation seems to be bound and determined to pave over Northern Virginia. I wonder how many of the senior official and politicos who deal with road-building own stock in asphalt and concrete companies?

I have seen my 4-mile commute (a blessing in the Washington DC area) increase from 7 minutes to 15 minutes... All because of the added local traffic from developments that continue to spring up. Also, there is no Metro access in this area, which worsens the problem. I know 15 minutes is not much to complain about, but it is a sympton that must be unbearable to those having "real" commutes...
