DbEdit Plugin for Eclipse

Introduction

DbEdit is a set of plugins for the Eclipse Platform that provide viewing, editing and designing capabilities using the JDBC^TM API. It is not intended to replace any proprietary database management tool because it surely cannot beat them because the JDBC^TM API has several limitations.
Currently there are the following functionalities:

direct table data manipulation using the Table Editor
editing and executing of SQl statements using the SQL Editor
exploring database structure using the Tables View
scanning tables for search patterns with Eclipse integrated database Search Support
exporting and importing table DDL and content using Eclipse integrated Export/Import feature
compare tables using the table comparison
explore a schema's referential structure using the Visual Editor

Installation / Eclipse Update Manager

The package can either be downloaded, unzipped and copied under the plugins-directory of Eclipse or retrieved using the Update Manager of the Eclipse Workbench. For the latter case you should define a a site bookmark to http://dbedit.sourceforge.net/update in the Update Managers Feature Updates View and follow the instructions of the help system. If there is a proxy for HTTP connections you should configure your Eclipse startup with the arguments

-vmargs
-DproxySet=true
-DproxyHost=yourProxy -DproxyPort=yourProxyPort

You will need JDBC-Drivers for the databases you want to browse. To make the driver available for DbEdit go to Window/Preferences/Dbedit/SQL Driver Path and select the appropriate Jar or Zip resource from the file system. After changing the path preferences the Open Connection Dialog presents the contained drivers. A connection has to be configured similar to the MySQL example:

Driver: org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver

Legal

DbEdit is free for non commercial use. If you want to use it in a commercial environment, build commercial software on top of it or otherwise make money out of it, you need to buy a license. For details and prices please contact me by Email.
However, there's a version of DbEdit been released under the terms of the GPL. It will be available at SourceForge.

an error description and a test case, if possible
