Keith Cooper, a native of Highgate Falls, Vermont was a stand-out athlete at Missisquoi Valley Union High School excelling in baseball, hockey and soccer. Keith was a graduate of the University of Vermont where he majored in History and planned to pursue a career as a High School History Teacher after a professional baseball career. He was UVM's ace pitcher for four years where he set numerous school records including the most appearances ever by a pitcher. Keith was choosen as a first team All New England Pitcher in both his Junior and Senior year. In his Junior year he pitched for the Division I All New England All Star Team at Fenway Park and in his Senior year on May 30, 1995 Keith was the starting pithcer at Fenway Park for the same team. Keith was also named UVM's Most Valuable Player for the 1995 season. On June 23, 1995 Keith signed a professional baseball contract with the Atlanta Braves. He was assigned to the Danville Braves of Danville, Virginia where he also excelled and posted outstanding pitching statistics in his first professional baseball season.

Keith was tragically killed in an automobile accident November 14, 1995 on his 23rd birthday. The proceeds from this event will be added to the UVM Baseball Scholarship Fund that was established in 1996. The scholarship will be awarded to a student athlete who demonstratesthe level of dedication, competitiveness, and spirit of fair play that Keith Cooper possessed, and who througha personal hardship would be unable to attend their next semester at UVM.
