ASA Minutes for 10-2-03

 

I.  Welcome

II.  Icebreaker

            Everyone was paired up and had 5 mins to find what he/she had in common with

their partner.

III.  Announcements

            A.  San Marcos will carpool with ASA to Baylor for their banquet.

            B.  Baylor weekend is Oct. 31st – November 2nd

            C.  Forum on Oct. 14th with BSA: 

                        (i)We will be having skits to show some of the issues that occur between

Africans and African-Americans.  For those interested in being volunteers for the skits, contact Erika Cardosa.  The main topics that the skits will cover are:  relationships, education and stereotypes. 

(ii)Location:  Sanchez 104 from 7-9 P.M.

(iii)Topics of the forum:  Dating, Education, Family life, History views, and stereotypes.  The forum will begin with a (audio) video that will display people being asked about their views on these issues.

(iv)We will pub with BSA this week for the forum.  The black tote bag with the ASA stuff (trophies, banner, etc.) will be located in the Center for African and African-American Studies on the second floor of Jester.

(v) Title of Forum:  “Two Beats to the Same Drum”

            D.  FUNDS:  We will be sending letterheads with Fest Africa info to Businesses,

Family, Friends, etc. to spread the word and to obtain funds for Fest Africa.   To obtain a letterhead contact Erika Cardosa.

            E.  Fundraising:

                        (i)Taco Cabana – October 31st; ASA will pass out fliers from 5:30-8P.M. 

(This date is pending since Oct. 31st is during Parents’ Weekend.)

(ii)Erwin Center Basketball game:  Nov. 1st, 10 P.M. – 2:00 P.M.

            F.  Campus Fusion:  Saturday, Oct. 4th; ASA Dance team will perform between 12

and 1 P.M.  ASA will also have a booth with food and music.

            G.  Texas Volleyball International Student Night:  October 18th at 7:00 P.M.

                        The first 25 International Students will be given a free athletic T-shirt.  To

win a free T-shirt, contact Alicia Amuneke.

            H.  “Longhorn Halloween” – Sunday, Oct. 26th from 2-5 P.M.

           

            The remainder of the time was spent on Fest Africa.

                        A fashion show will be included in Fest Africa this year.
