USS Cook APD 130 Newsletter Archives

I hadn't originally envisioned a newsletter.  But, at a certain point, I found my self trying to relate information, from one person who emailed me,  to the other people.   I  realized that only a newsletter could fill this function.  Therefore, I made the silhouette  graphic of the Cook and mailed the first two rambling emails.  Finally, at the first of the year, I developed the new format which you see in the newlsetter of Jan. 08, 2002.

To provide for a system which doesn't Spam people with unsolicited junk mail,  I initiated a Subscribe and Unsubscribe "Opt-In" email system, through Bravenet Services.  In order to receive the newsletters, you must Subscribe at the place provided on the home page.  It is a two part system.  After subscribing, you will receive an  email,  which will ask you to verify your subscription.  This is to prevent malicious persons from subscribing other people, who may not want the newsletter.  The system is automated, so you can Subscribe and Unsubscribe at will.

However, the newsletters will not be sent through Bravenet.  I chose not to use them for that, because the price of their service is a newsletter filled with advertisements.  I am only using their system to collect the email addresses of those who have "Opted-In".  I will check the current list prior to each mailing.

I am hoping  we will find some Former Commaning Officers to write columns for the "Captains' Chair".   I also encourage everyone to send in any stories, remarks, or questions, they may have, to flesh out the newsletter.  We can also put photos in the newsletter.  Don't worry about grammar, spelling etc., I will edit it, the best I can, before posting it.  Hopefully, we will find  people who want  to take over the newsletter duties  in the future.   ANDY
