WHAT'S NEW 5/1/03

Once again I had a wonderful opportunity to sit in and watch a seminar with a great teacher Mitsugi Saotome. It was a very inspiring journey through the technical and philosophical endeavors of Aikido.. and a lot of talk about the founder who Mitsugi Saotome spent a great amount of time with.. To see some pictures or read more about this man who has been practicing Aikido for over 50 years and is still very active and quick on his feet at the age of 66 . This link is for both seminars Click here

Random Thoughts 5/1/03

"I meditated on O Sensei's (Great Teacher) spirit for three days and three nights and I felt it was his wish that I should go. This country is a great experiment, a melting pot of people from many different cultural backgrounds living together, the world condensed into one nation. The goal of Aikido and O Sensei's dream is that all the peoples of the world live together as one family, in harmony with each other and with their environment. The United States has the opportunity to set a great example."

                                  Mitsugi Saotome

Hello for those who aren't familiar with me or my plans this is brief description on my New Awakening . If you came here from the Deadset WebPages you know me as the guitar player for Deadset , but my family or friends have come here to keep in touch and monitor my new endeavors. So here is my short story. Back in October `02 I quit smoking and planed on trying to start eating right and exercise more.... I was getting near 30 and the toll of all the partying and poor lifestyle got me thinking about a change. So I began to work out slowly at home with dumbbells and started watching my diet . I was thinking about some form of Martial Arts like Judo or Karate or something just to get some cardio workout and a form of self defense and I stumbled onto Aikido... and was captivated after the first 30 minutes of reading !!

I began to order books on Aikido and started freeing my mind of the western civilizations belief and the environment around me . I begun reading a little about Zen meditation , Buddhism and Asian cultures and began to realized that I as an American had never thought outside of what I saw on TV or heard on the radio. I was destroying myself with toxins and poor diet as we here like to live fast and easy and sometimes that isn't always the best route. I realized that their were so many people who were suffering just to have my health not my material items or my freedom .... just my health... and then realized that I must personally make a change.

As I was slowly started walking away from the ROCK N ROLL lifestyle ( Partying and substances that usually goes with it ) I personally had been letting it cloud my vision and blur reality. Not that it does for everyone but this is my story. Sobriety is a wonderful thing!!! I have been sober now for months and I truly feel the best I have in over a decade ( Since I was in a haze for the most part of the decade ) Now months later after my New Awakening , I'm a member of a local health club , eating healthy and becoming closer to my own personal enlightenment. I am gearing up for my journey to start my Uchideshi Program somewhere ... but for now I will be practicing in Atlanta on the weekends at Aikido Association of Atlanta ( Thanks to Paul & David for giving me a chance to practice at the center on the weekends)

Well I hope some of this information gives you a better understanding of my endeavors and a better understanding of Aikido and the philosophy behind it or just a better outlook on life itself . I am not trying to change the world or anyone for that matter . I am only trying to better myself as a human being and maybe bring some enlightenment to you or someone you know. I hope you will keep an eye on this page and I will keep it updated throughout each step I make. Please feel free to email with any questions or suggestions @ ushibudo@yahoo.com or aikidoist@hotmail.com

USHIBUDO is a just a name I came up with for my yahoo email and so I started my webpage using that ID . It is a combination of two Japanese words . Ushi which is my zodiac meaning Ox & Budo means "Martial Way"

To all the people who think I have lost my mind :

" Everyone has a spirit that can be refined, a body that can be trained in some manner, a suitable path to follow. You are here for no other purpose than to realize your inner divinity and manifest your innate enlightenment. Foster peace in your own life and then apply the Art to all that you encounter " Morihei Ushiba
