The "Mighty K": USS Kendrick DD612

Information sent in by Doug Wildfoerster, RM1/c.

I enlisted in August 1942, at age 17 and just two months out of high school. I was sent to Newport, Rhode Island for boot camp, followed by radio school-where I learned about sending and receiving Morse Code and learning other procedures and duties of being a Radio Man. That was followed by a short stint in Bethesda (Washington DC), where I was taught the German version of Morse Code.

Then on 3 January, 1943, I went aboard the USS Kendrick DD612 and spent the next 2 1/2 years until leaving on 25 June, 1945.
