The Urton family has been in America since at least 1750. Virginia was the center of activity for many
years. The family eventually moved west, with branches settling along the Ohio/Kentucky border, and in
northern California.
The Kopiasz' came to America in the early 20th century, about 1910. They
came from Poland where they may have been landed farmers. Joseph Kopiasz settled his family in Buffalo,
New York, where his descendants live today. Joseph's son John came to Alaska in the 1930's, and found
work on the Alaska Railroad. He returned to Alaska after serving in World War II, and married Marianne
Urton.
There are other branches of the Kopiasz family, most notably in Nebraska, but while a relation
seems obvious, no details are known. Any information about these families is welcomed.
