Subterranean Twin Cities
By Greg Brick
The Essential Reference Book!
Here's a review of my latest book by the British caver Chris Howe, the world expert on the history of subterranean lighting:
This website deals primarily with the Minneapolis-St. Paul (Twin Cities), Minnesota area, which has a unique spelean resource. Some of the places described are freely accessible to the general public, while others require permission.  I do not conduct tours nor do I run a club, so I must regretfully decline any  requests I receive to take people on trips.
TAKE A VIRTUAL TOUR OF BASSETT CREEK A photo sequence of Minneapolis' famous subterranean stream.  Do alligators really live there?
ATOMIC BOMB CAVE SURVEY
In the early 1960s, the local firm TKDA surveyed the caves of the Twin Cities for suitability as fallout shelters.  In many cases, the resulting maps are the only maps of of the caves available.  I plan to place some of the more interesting samples of the draftsman's art on-line, but here is an example from West St. Paul, the so-called Lyman Brown Cave, rated to hold 1774 persons in the case of nuclear catastrophe.  Would you be one of the lucky few?
THE ST. CLOUD GRANITE BAT TUNNELS They have an almost psychedelic patterning.  Something to do in the drab wastelands of central Minnesota.
TO HELL IN A HAND BASKET

SUBTERRANEAN VENICE
We used to pole our "gondola" through the mill tunnels under Minneapolis in the 1980s.  With the creation of Mill Ruins Park in 2000 they are off-limits.
THE KING OF PARTY CAVES
How would you like to be in a cave when tear-gas is shot in at you?  Go belly-up like a rat!
CARVER'S CAVE
It became the baptismal font of Minnesota caving when Jonathan Carver visited it in 1766.  Now it's the backdrop for a local band.
