Understanding

A scholar once sought to acquire

Understanding of pain. An intense desire

Drove ris scholar high and low, through vale and dale

To many libraries, through books, too bards, to many a tale

The scholar would listen, searching for pain

Of which alittle understanding he wished to gain.

Once did the scholar see an exponent, a man

Professing Knowledge.Said the scholar "I beg you if you can

Enlighten me slake my first with the liquid of your knowledge"

Said the man "A fools folly or senseless courage

Drives you, yet my word you have received

So shall it be fulfilled despite those who maybe bereaved".

It seemed that the mans countenance gaunt and grim

Barely discernible under hooded cloak would fill to the brim

The scholars desire for pain. Unable to feel; a blessing ? no a curse !

The hooded man produced a sack," jump in and yourself immerse

And all things in good measure will be revealed"

The scholar peering, saw and reeled

with shock ? Joy ? fear ?- no one knows

For so the story goes.

That he entered with a sigh

The sack closed, a pale horse cantered by

The man mounted, looked the sun in the eye

" Understanding, awaits all, you see..I"

He said " I know".
