DeAngelo Williams became the University of Memphis's all-time leading rusher with his performance during Sat., Oct. 2, 2004 home victory, 41-14, over Houston. Williams gained 262 yards on the ground against the Cougars to up his career rushing total yards to 2,866, surpassing Dave Casinelli's 2,636 yards from 1960-63. His 262 yards is also a new school record for most rushing yardage in a game, breaking Paul "Skeeter" Gowen's 260-yard performance against Tulsa in 1969.

First win ever over Tennessee

On Saturday, Nov. 9, 1996, fans tore down the goal posts at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee following the University of Memphis' 21-17 upset victory over sixth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers, who were led by star quarterback Peyton Manning. It was Memphis' first win over intrastate rival Tennessee in 16 tries.
