UNITED ENTHUSIASTS CLUB

Founded in 1984 with the support and encouragement of the company management, the UNITED ENTHUSIASTS CLUB continues to flourish today with the help of successor companies Arriva North East and Arriva Northumbria. The club caters for the growing number of enthusiasts interested in these operators and in the history of United and it's immediately associated companies. There are some 170 members, living as far afield as Devon and the North of Scotland as well as in the local area.

Members are kept informed by a monthly illustrated newsletter containing vehicle and service news of Arriva Northumbria and Arriva North East, articles, letters, book reviews, comment and details of events. An enlarged quarterly edition contains major articles, usually historical, and provides a platform for members to share the results of their researches. Publication is towards the end of the named month, and by courtesy of Arriva each issue usually contains the Company's Northumbria and North East vehicle allocation sheets for that month.

Meetings are held at various locations, and excursions are organised from time to time to places of interest.

LATEST NEWS

END OF THE 723 to NEWCASTLE

On Saturday, 26th February, 71 years of joint operation between Darlington and Newcastle ended as Arriva ceased to operate north of Framwellgate Moor in Durham City, and Go-North East no longer working south of the City. The service 46 had been renumbered to 722/3 in 1975, although service 722 via Elvet ceased to operate in 2003; perhaps the first ominous sign.

The last ever Darlington double decker to Newcastle was 7441 on the 15.40 Darlington to Newcastle, seen here at Harrowgate Hill. It was replaced by DAF/Optare SB220 4095 for the evening run to the City.

Go-North East Trident 3882 was in Darlington on 12th February working the 13.40 departure from Tubwell Row

Carrying soon to be redundant branding, Arriva NE 7442 was also pictured on February 12th
