- The "Say, Brothers, Will You Meet Us?" tune is better known by the later name, "John Brown's Body," and is best known as the even later "Battle Hymn of the Republic."
- It would be interesting to know whether John W. Hutchinson had a hand in writing the "Henry George Our Hero" lyrics. The only contemporary source I've seen omitted credit for the words.
John W. Hutchinson sang at Single Tax Club meetings, and he enthusiastically endorsed the ideals of Henry George and Father Edward McGlynn. John supported Henry George in the 1897 campaign for mayor of New York City, singing this campaign song, toward the end, wherever he appeared. As one might surmise from the lyrics, Henry George died before election day; and his son, Henry George, Jr., took his place as a candidate for mayor.
During this campaign, one George Strassner featured in a colorful incident involving John. A contemporary news report called Strassner perhaps the most prominent German-American in Greater New York; yet that and other reports fail to say why he was prominent and what was his connection with Henry George and the 1897 campaign. Can any of our visitors supply details about George Strassner?
