UHF operates three centers -- Bahay ni San Francisco, a day center for street and out-of-school children and youth, and two community-based centers in Calbayog, Bgy. Highway Hills and in Welfareville, Bgy. Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City.
We have two main programs:
"Aral Kalinga" - a mentoring and tutorial program for in-school children who are on the margin or whose average grade upon entry into the program is 78% and below; and
"Buhay Kalinga" - a mentoring program that addresses the needs of out-of-school street children and youth.
Through "Aral Kalinga", we help keep children in school. We likewise try to raise aspirations by creating a support structure that strengthens and affirms the children’s resolve to improve their lives.
With "Buhay Kalinga", we provide street and out-of-school children and youth alternative opportunities for channeling their energies. We organize programs and activities to help them re-gain a sense of their personal worth and enable them to navigate a way out of the streets.
At our centers, we provide individual and family counseling, tutorials and literacy classes, art lessons, as well as, livelihood training, medical and, on occasion, legal assistance. In keeping with our vision of caring communities, all UHF children are also encouraged to serve as peer tutors or "Munting Titsers" and to be a reader in monthly community-wide read-aloud activities.
We invite you to become involved and participate in UHF activities. You would help us greatly by volunteering as a tutor, mentor or fund-raiser, or by becoming a volunteer member of our office staff. Financial contributions are also very much welcome.
