I regret to inform the UME participants that the Alumni Network is no longer hosted under the umideast.8m.com domain. Instead, I have decided to devote the content of this web site to more pressing and more concrete needs, those of Human Rights and ways of implementing them in our region. One reason for this choice, is that with the current conflict in the region, the eyes of the international community as well as those of the local people are all focused on that particular conflict while the governments in the region feel in the shade regarding the Human Rights abuse in their countries. In other words, the problem in the region of the middle East and North Africa is not ONLY THAT particular conflict between two countries. Behind the dust storm caused by the afore mentioned conflict, there are Human Rights violations perpetrated daily in different MENA countries, among others, freedom of expression in Tunisia, Mass executions of children, women and the elderly in Algeria, expeditive trials and the cruel and inhuman executions under the mask of religion in Saudi Arabia to name but these.

The information provided herein has been retrieved from the archives of Amnesty International and other international as well as local NGO's. This safeguards the impartiality of the web site and makes it one that handles the Human Rights issue without any political, ethnic or religious bias. ;=)

My web site is largely under offline construction and will appear in its final shape very soon. in the meantime, I thank everybody for their anticipated support and involvement!
