Welcome to the Northern Half of my Site
Southport
Southport is where i was born and bred, until a few months ago. It's about a 30 minute drive to Liverpool from there, and about 40 minutes to Preston (I apologise if this is wrong - what can i say, i don't drive!). It's known a Sunny Southport, and is a seaside tourist town (god knows why, there is that much sun and trust me the seaside isn't too great!). It's not too bad there though.
I went to Christ the King High School from 11-18 (1994-2001), They love me so much there I found myself on the front of the CTK 6th Form Centre brochure, I'm a star! (Or so I like to believe - tee hee hee)
Shopping
There are quite a few shops (but if you want to seriously shop you're better of in Liverpool or Preston). The best shops are on Chapel Street, but there are more on Lord Street, Eastbank Street and other surrounding roads.
Pubbing and Clubbing
The Nightlife isn't the best in the UK (by far), but there are some classic places. I've had some brilliant nights out in Southport with my friends though. Here's some photos of our last big night out before uni.
New Year 2002 was brilliant! We had a great night in Bliss and I even did some travelling around and made it as far as Wendy's in Hillside, where I got enticed into drinking lots and having a game of Twister! Of course there's photos so you can come on the journey with me!
I worked at the bar in Pontins, Southport this summer, and had a brilliant time... we had some good drinking seeions... here's the photos!
- Maloneys (In the Scarisbrick Hotel on Lord St.) is a brilliant Irish cocktail bar (it has a really good pub atmosphere). There are more cocktails then you could drink in a week, my aim is to eventually try them all! The best thing is that it is 2-4-1 on all cocktails with an NUS card!
- Repuliks (Coronation Walk) is quite nice. Before I left it was well known for it's flavoured vodka shots. It's usually pretty busy and for most people the last bar before a club. If you want to find someone at about 10pm they'll probably be in here! If your up for footballer spotting you'll probably be best to look in here (You may have seen it on ITN after Gerrard went out drinking til 2am before an important training sesh!).
- Bliss is where everyone usually ends up. It's nothing special, but where everyone goes, and when it's a quid a drink on monday nights, you can't really complain. Watch out if your on the pull though, it is well renound as a hangout for the under 18's, in holiday times you may find that it is full of 14-17 year olds in there!)
It's not the nicest club about, but it has a certain atmosphere about it...and cheaper drinks than Code! It has two floors, usually cheese/retro on the landing and house/trance in the attic.
- Code is the club that used to be The Two Brewers pub (by Safeway). I've been a couple of times and it's very swish, fancy glowing seats (tho watch how u sit on them!), a water feature, posh toilet seats, a spiral staircase up to the chill out area (whoever put the spiral staircase in has never tried to walk down one when drunk! stupid stupid idea), leather sofas...of course it'll probably have all been trashed in five minutes flat! It's cool, but personally i think they've tried to be far too trendy for southport - the drinks and entry prices reflect this - i'll stick to bliss, thanx! (oh and the 14 to 17 yr old thing applies there too!)
- Infinity is the newest club, it opened a few months ago and it what was once The Colluseum. It's mainly house music I think - which is good, but I've never got around to going. I think I'll be disappointed, The Colleseum was my favourite underage clubbing spot, I have many a happy memory there, Infinity might be crap. Ok, the real reason I haven't gone is cos i'm too damn lazy!!!
No-one hold me responsible for any information on this site, I've not been back to Southport since the summer!
Other things to do!
What else is there in Southport apart from shopping and clubbing I hear you ask!!! (Maybe you don't care but i'm gonna tell you anyway).
- We have a fairground (Pleasureland), it's okay i suppose, there's the Traumatizer and a couple of other decent rides. I haven't been there for ages though.
- The beach is a bit of a dump, it's quite dirty and you have to walk for miles to get to the sea. But we now have the sea wall that's quite nice to walk along, as long as you don't get blown away.
- The pinewoods between Ainsdale and Freshfield are good for bike riding, there's a couple of really good hills to go whizzing down.
- There are loads of places to go for T'noon tea (For those out there who are uneducated, Afternoon Tea is when you have a cup of tea and a toasted teacake). Often an activity undertaken by the older generation, it's a nice break from an afternoon shopping til you drop!
- To honour my dearest friend Cat I feel i have to mention the 24 hour Tesco's at Kew, it is very big and has lots of Tesco type things. I've been told it's a very good place to walk round and wind down.
- do you know what I very nearly forgot? A little gem, tho I have never visited I believe it makes for an entertaining day trip. The National Lawnmower Museum on Shakespeare St. Miss It, Miss Out :)
