Reading Across America With Robert Stanek & His Ruin Mist Books
February 14, 2003

Project Ruin Mist, a group dedicated to promoting the works of author Robert Stanek and the Small Press in America, is urging librarians to nominate The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches for the American Library Association Best Books for Young Adults Award.   According to Project Ruin Mist, Robert Stanek is one of the most important American authors today. The group is sponsoring Stanek's books for Read Across America and is promoting March 18 as The Kingdoms and Elves of the Reaches Day.

According to Project Ruin Mist it's because the books are entertaining, educational and from a remarkable author -- a person who is a highly distinguished veteran, a strong supporter of schools, libraries and reading, and a true American hero. Stanek's books teach life lessons and values that are important. The books are creative and imaginative with surprising depth. And Robert Stanek would be the first to admit the books aren't perfect -- rather they are the best they can be with the resources available.

Project Ruin Mist is asking everyone, young and old alike, to support one of America's own. Putting action to words, Project Ruin Mist proposes March 18 as The Kingdoms and Elves of the Reaches Day -- a day to celebrate Robert Stanek's The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches in classrooms, libraries and homes, and recommending that June be declared as America Reads Robert Stanek Month.

Project Ruin Mist proposes that Robert Stanek's books be featured during Read Across America, an event developed by the National Education Association to promote reading (www.nea.org/readacross), to kick off the June event. Project Ruin Mist is also sponsoring Freedom of Information Day (www.ala.org/washoff), March 16, 2003.

Reagent Press, publishers of the books, added, "Robert Stanek has a strong grassroots following. His books have sold well, and we're pleased that individuals and organizations are supporting the books and the Small Press."

Kingdoms and Elves Day A Success
March 20, 2003

Over a dozen schools, libraries and community centers across the United States held events in support of The Kingdoms and Elves of the Reaches Day and Read Across America. Project Ruin Mist, a group promoting author Robert Stanek and the Small Press in America, proclaimed the events a huge success for small press author Robert Stanek, even though the impending war in the Persian Gulf did mute some efforts.  According to Project Ruin Mist, readers, teachers and parents got so involved in the project because the books are entertaining, educational and from a remarkable author -- a person who is a highly distinguished veteran, a strong supporter of schools, libraries and reading, and a true American hero. Stanek's books teach life lessons and values that are important. The books are creative and imaginative with surprising depth.

Project Ruin Mist is asking everyone, young and old alike, to continue to support one of America's own, and to continue to feature Robert Stanek's books during Read Across America events. Reagent Press, publishers of the books, added, "We are extremely pleased with the  success and the efforts of everyone involved from parents to teachers to readers."

Keeping Pace with Demand and New Editions of Ruin Mist Books
April 21, 2003

In 2002, Reagent Press couldn't keep up with demand but thanks to better distribution that?s changing. The publisher's original distribution deal with Ingram has been expanded, a new deal with Baker & Taylor was achieved, and starting in mid-2003, Bertrams will distribute the books in U.K and Europe. Additional distribution deals with library wholesalers, including the Brodart, Co., Book Wholesalers Inc., and Midwest Library Service should also improve availability.

Thomas Green admits it has turned out for the better though as the original artwork and printings of the books reflected too strongly the publisher's indie roots and that confused mainstream readers who weren?t used to indie editions. So the publisher went back to the drawing board and gave the seven original Ruin Mist books a facelift and a tummy tuck. The new 2003 editions not only sport new covers, they also have a new interior design and text layout.

The Ruin Mist books have been so successful that Reagent Press has launched a new imprint called Ruin Mist Publications whose editors gathered Robert Stanek?s letters to readers, writings for teachers and other educators, his interviews, and other Ruin Mist-related writings to use as the basis of a Ruin Mist learning series, which includes Teacher's Classroom Guide to Robert Stanek's Ruin Mist (ISBN 1-57545-032-1, April 2003), Magic of Ruin Mist: A Candid Look at Robert Stanek's Life, Work and Books (ISBN: 1-57545-031-3, May 2003), and Robert Stanek: Candid Conversations about His Life, Work and Writing: In His Own Words (ISBN: 1-57545-030-5, May 2003).

Robert Stanek HelpingSchools Get Books
August 28, 2003

According to Jeannie Kim, the Books for Schools Program has so far been a resounding success and that pleases author Robert Stanek."I'm committed to helping schools and ensuring children have books to read," says Robert Stanek, "and I'm so pleased to be a part of an organization that shares that vision.

Jeannie Kim adds, "I've said it before and I'll say it again. Robert Stanek is one of the nicest people you'd ever meet. He really wants the Book Club and Books for Schools Programs because he believes in giving back to the community--and giving back to communities is something we at Reagent Press strongly believe in as well."

Student's Classroom Handbook For The Kingdoms And The Elves Of The Reaches
September 8, 2003

?For 14 weeks in 2002, two of the best-selling science fiction and fantasy titles on Amazon.Com were Ruin Mist: Keeper Martin?s Tale and Ruin Mist: Elf Queen?s Quest, fast-paced fantasy epics where the world of Ruin Mist is experiencing a great change and the heroes are discovering just as much about themselves as the world around them. The books are written by science fiction author Robert Stanek, and have a strong, vocal following of readers.

A few months ago if you asked Jeannie Kim at Reagent Press what their best known product was she would have said Keeper Martin's Tale--the book has been a favorite of readers and is one of their top-selling titles. But now thanks to the publication of the Teacher's Classroom Guide to Robert Stanek's Ruin Mist, which has been a bigger success than Reagent Press expected, and the soaring popularity of Robert Stanek's The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches, all that's changing.

Teacher's Classroom Guide to Robert Stanek's Ruin Mist has helped introduce The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches to teachers and educators, many of whom have just fallen head over heels in love with the books and their characters, says Jeannie Kim. The books have been so successful that Reagent Press is launching a new book entitled Student's Classroom Handbook for The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches.

Student's Classroom Handbook for The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches seeks to meet the needs of classroom teachers and parents with home schooled children, many of whom have written to Reagent Press looking for more classroom materials based on Robert Stanek's books. The handbook includes the complete text of the original book, The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches, plus:

A special introduction  Vocabulary builders  Student activities  Word searches  Word jumbles  Word sorts  Discussion questions

Student's Classroom Handbook for The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches is written as a companion book to Teacher's Classroom Guide to Robert Stanek's Ruin Mist, and can also stand on its own.
