Scarface - The Fix

Album Rate: 4.5 out of 5 Stars

Scarface returns to the rap game but this time as CEO of Def Jam South. The former Geto Boys member is joined on the 13 track album by Nas, Kelly Price, Faith Evans, Jay-Z, & Beanie Sigel.

1. The Fix-- piano intro

2. Safe-- the beat on this one has a blues feel and comes with the horns to go with the heavy bassline. Face spits game about life on the streets and in the hood. He lays down several tight verses. Nice way to start the album.

3. In Cold Blood-- this track has a beat which sounds like Face was rappin in front of a live band. Scarface comes tight on the mic again but I ain't really diggin the beat.

4. Guess Who's Back (f/ Jay-Z & Beanie Sigel)-- this is the first single from the album. The song was produced by the newest Roc-A-Fella signee Kanye West. It's has that distinctive sound like this is a Jay-Z track and Scarface is the guest artist. I was disappointed by Beanie Mac's verse cause I've heard him sound better than this. I like the track overall though.

5. On My Block-- this is the second single (first official single) from the album. The song starts out with a piano intro that seems like it was ripped right out of a Charlie Brown/Peanuts cartoon. I'm sure most of you have heard this one so I mention a lot about it.

6. Keep Me Down-- Face raps about how the people around him changed once he had money. Nonetheless, he manages to stay the same even though he's famous.

7. What Can I Do (f/ Kelly Price)-- this track has got a tight ass beat. This is a slow track that you can just bob ya head to. The track deals with a parent losing his/her child and just death in general. Kelly Price does a good job with the hook. This is my favorite track on the album and I hope they make it a single.

8. In Between Us (f/ Nas)-- well we go from my favorite track on the album to my least favorite track. The song isn't horrible, but I just ain't feelin it. Nas does lay down a tight verse. The hook sucks though.

9. Someday (f/ Faith Evans)-- this is a slower tempo track. Faith starts the track out with the hook. Scarface comes nicely on the verses almost just speakin the words. This is one of those deep songs about finding God and following in His footsteps.

10. Sellout-- the beat on this one sounds like some west coast shit. Face rips into all the artists who are prostituted by the record labels. He claims that he'll never sell out to move more units. He also calls out those fake ass thugs on the mic. Tight song.

11. Heaven (f/ Kelly Price)-- we go back to the slower track on this one. Scarface raps about how he was lost but found "heaven in the form of a girl". Kelly Price does another nice job on the hook. They lose the flow in the middle of the track though with the beat change. You'll know what I'm talkin about when you listen to it.

12. I Ain't The One (f/ WC)-- Face is joined by def Jam's newest artist WC of Westside Connection fame. This track has a little bit of a west coast beat to it. Face does come tight on his verse. WC also comes hard as fuck on his verse.

13. Fixed-- piano outro

Overall, this album is better than I expected. I was kinda disappointed by "Last Of A Dying Breed" but Face came tight on this one. Critics may say that the album sounds too east coast but I don't really think it has that much of an east coast feel to it. Scarface proves why he's known as one the top lyricists in the game. You can almost close your eyes and see exactly what he rappin about. Tight lyrics and tight production make this one definitely worth pickin up. You can even pop the CD in your computer and get a glimpse of the upcoming S.W.A.T. "Urban Justice".
